31 miles as per Mapquest. I think we're safe. Won't be staying for too long, but I'll bring some firewood.

Great news that you can make it, even if it's not for too long. Glad to have you, and thanks in advance for bringing firewood!

Thanks Bill - the wood will come in handy. No, I don't believe you will need to stop at the park office - and I actually suggest you don't bother - Only my name is on the reservations, so you or anyone else trying to check in at the office will not mean much. I plan on getting there about 3:30 on Thursday, so I should be there early enough to take care of all the reservations and have everything all set for everyone else to just head right to the camp sites.

I work until 2pm on Saturday, so we'll roll in around 4 I guess. I'll be bringing a few cool lights, chairs, and stuff to make s'mores! :) I'm planning on bringing my eu2000i if anyone needs some shore power to charge stuff. Nice and quiet.

On the same note: I'll have a site with electric also if anyone needs something charged.

On a different note: My wife will be making chili and homemade bread for everyone for dinner one night. :D

Tim, how many folks to be attending? Sledhead and I have been discussing firewood availability. I was to the "Ledges" site this morning and there are 18" sections of a fallen tree there but, virtually all would need a splitter to use for any campfire. Any difficulties anyone is anticipating getting firewood....?

Hi Karl,

I believe we are up to about 20ish total between the two events. Someone said they are bringing some "lumberjacking" equipment - I'm not sure what that entails, but hopefully it will allow us to process some of that downed wood.

I can bring a bow saw and axe but I'll hunt down and buy some local wood too. And I've been saving newspapers from work this week for starting. Then remembered I've got a campfire starter propane blowtorch. So there's options.

 and if anyone has a splitter or wedge that would be good too.

I did speak with the Park Ranger (?) who indicated that he was unaware of any vendors selling wood within the park itself guess there had been however, when the vendors left their sites for the evening, those needing the "abandoned" wood decided it was free and helped themselves. Didn't take long for those (former) vendors to realize selling firewood to campers was a bit less of a business and more of a charity event. I subsequently made a call to a good friend of mine who lives near the park and he recommended a guy whom I spoke with and who stopped the firewood business just this year. HE referred me to his (former) competition who I attempted to track down, just a few miles (again) from the park. No dice---out of season for most campers this time of year (and hence no business for firewood dealers) despite the upcoming BEAUTIFUL few days that are expected this weekend. Driving back (West on Rt. 438) in rural Pa. I saw a rustic (?) greenhouse business, "Beichlers" by name and stopped in. I spoke with "Eric" who showed me a small amount of seasoned firewood ( 5X5X3') that he would sell but indicated that wasn't really his business. I indicated I'd get back to him if there was a need. His place is about 4-5 miles from the park. let me know ASAP otherwise I'm going to call him and tell him no interest.

I'll bring my splitters too. Plenty of room in the truck. Awesome on the cool stuff from Dorcy!

Scout24 - thanks for bringing the splitter :) Yep - I think you will like the Dorcy and Life&Gear stuff - I recall bringing a bunch of Dorcy giveaways and stuff to the get together we had at your place too. :)

Hi Karl, despite the unseasonably warm temps we will have this weekend - I don't think we can go wrong with having extra firewood.

Well it seems that we will have unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend. It looks like it will be 15-20 degrees cooler next weekend (which I would prefer) however, they are also calling for rain next weekend, and I'll take it a little warmer but dry for sure!
