I have no reason to accuse the man of lying so for me that's proof. That's not to say other accounts aren't true. I am just going by his words and what I actually see.

I think we agree that the M60 is a survivor, even when O-rings are compromised. I just wonder about the long term deleterious effects of dunking the module.

Very cool! That looks a lot like 3M Safety Walk tape. Might even be the same stuff. I've used the 3M product many times to build fishing rods. A lot of professional builders use it too. GLoomis for example has used it for rod grips. If you spiral wrap it tight, you can't even see the seams- looks like it was painted on. Here's a shot of a rod I built using it. (not the best picture)

Thanks. It might be the same stuff. Good that these can be used for improved grip on a number of different tools!

marco.weiss, #12999. Awesome collection! Thanks for sharing!

That was my collection at one point. I do not think i ever posted a pic of my final collection before selling many off to better homes. He just used my pics and edited them.

However he has an even better collection now and seems to keep adding to it

Making a lantern something really good requires the existence of some very simple features, nothing very special.

Today everything is meant to be discarded completely because almost nothing is replaceable and companies also do not provide spare parts.

I do not know why the modular concept is not more common among many and many brands today.

In fact I know why: it is not worth making such a robust product available in an increasingly competitive market ...

Either you make a cheap product or the company dies.
And to make a cheap product every resource that does not impress the user ends up being discarded.

This is not good.

Here's a nice example of something very good, but not perfect: the Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA flashlight. This flashlight has numerous qualities like:
- you can use two different sources: AA batteries or CR123 batteries;
- has a two-way clip;
- offers good power (up to 350 lumens with a CR123 battery or 150 lumens with an AA battery);
- it is programmable, allowing to meet 3 different profiles / needs / types of use, being:
1) high, strobo or low;
2) high or low;
3) Only high.

I've been thinking about buying such a flashlight but a lot of things worry me:
- What if the lens is broken?
- what if there is a problem with the tailcap?
- What if you lose or break the clip?

There are no spare parts!
The lens is neither removable!
A feather.

This flashlight would certainly be a perfect companion to EDC for years and years if it were a bit more modular.

Maybe in the United States that's what I'm feeling is not true, since a flashlight like that can be bought for a little over 35 dollars ...

But here in Brazil a little something like this costs about 350 monies!

Maybe I'm getting old and boring, or more demanding, more experienced and boring, or a little bit of everything.

Malkoff virus definitely infected me and I can not buy something from another brand.

The concepts of modularity applied by Gene in their flashlights are perfect! Almost everything is replaceable and almost everything is accessible to anyone who wants to buy, at a fair price, nothing abusive, except for the extender kit for the md host. haha

I am a malkoffaholic.

I leave you this subject for reflection.

Gene!
Make a two-way clip available to the mdc line.
Make programmable models available as soon as possible!

Shut up and take my money! haha

Great post, Marco! And with that, you've analyzed the what we call "the disposable culture."

I echo your sentiments about the Malkoff brand. A broken switch, for example, is no problem for a Malkoff user because I can buy spare parts. I don't know of any other manufacturer that provides so much redundancy, flexibility, or reliability.

Edit: I suppose Oveready and perhaps McGizmo (?) fit into that category.

ModernFlame, why did you take away the chickens....

It's possible that my blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit when I posted that. This morning, it was not as funny. I'm still gonna catch up with you guys, though. I can only buy flashlights as fast as the missus will allow, but I'm dead set on catching up with Marco.

I thought the chickens was funny, reminded me of when I was younger too

As far as catching up to Marco, I believe you might catch up to what he has now, but that is still going to take some serious time. I don't even know how many he has now but It's more than I had when I stopped

Based on the photos he's posted, I think Marco is at 29 Malkoff devices. That makes him the leader. Can anyone else compete?

Missed the chickens.
Nice post Marco, you said it all. That's the reason I scorn many other brands, no modularity.
I busted the lens on an expensive US made light a couple of years ago. No support over here, so it's in my parts bin - what a complete and utter waste.
As Mf says, Oveready are worth following too.

My lumens meter has not arrived yet. I believe it will take another one or two weeks ...

usually takes a month for imports to arrive. sometimes a little more ... yes, it's a long time and I need to have a big bag of patience.

I bought that very common model from dr. meter
I still do not know if I'm going to build that pvc pipe structure or a big styrofoam sphere. maybe both, since these materials are cheap :)

It will be cool to build this.

I do not intend to perform tests as advanced as yours because it would be like reinventing the wheel, but I want to have equipment to measure the lumens. :)

How did you build your structure? Did you use pipes too?

Thank you again for your efforts. the new way of displaying the results in the chart was very good.

thanks for the support
yesterday when I posted about modularity, streamlight and malkoff I was a little frustrated because that particular model interested me, but lacking features that I consider essential.

for sure the oveready is in the same boat as malkoff

the products of the solarforce as well, but the quality level is much lower.
however, a solarforce host with a malkoff´s dropin is something I've never stopped having.
The cost vs. benefit ratio is excellent! :)

I thought you already had a meter? Maybe I'm confusing you with Jose? Either way, I am glad that you have one coming. It is definitely a nice tool to have mainly for reference. In the past i had to guess on what output may be, Now I have a more accurate way to determine.

I recently tried the pvc pipe method and had bad results for what I'm trying to do. I guess if i wanted to calculate ea time it would be ok. I only used 3"pvc because 4" is too expensive and an integrated sphere can be made as cheap if not cheaper and will be more accurate

I wanted to try both methods but eventually I will see if I can get a sphere to produce what i want. I am not into working out the calculations ea time. My current method is actually extremely simple. Accuracy for the most part seems to be within spec, but I am sure i will encounter some inaccurate results. As long as everything stays the same and I am doing the comparisons, my data should be good enough to get the proper info.

I have also noticed that ea meter sensor does not read exactly the same, so results cannot be 100%. I guess we can say that my results give us a good baseline to reference from and provides an overall idea of what can be expected.

I'll try to send you a message in the next couple days...no guarantees;)

Oh damn, so I missed the chickens. You know chickens are what got me started in this!

Thanks, Gene
