That's right, "most" but not all.

I've run an MD3 on 4xCR2. yes, they do fit. You do have to use a 12V module so M61 series is out unless you get that rare exception module that can take 12V.

But the Hound Dog runs on 12V, so does M91T.

So, if you have absolutely nothing available to you but a metric ton of useless CR2 cells you can power up a MD3 12V device.

I think with the right extension/spacer you can fit 2xAAA in an MD3. Why would you? well, you can.

I am actually completely satisfied with my Super beam profile wise. True, it lacks the spill that the Hound Dog has. Or even M61. But that's not what it's for. If you want mega spill, use the regular Hound Dog. If you want maximum throw, but not to the point of being obnoxious pencil like Maglite beam profile, Super is what you want.

Super Hound Dog (or was it Hound Dog Super) is an awesome product and a must in your collection despite being north of 200 tokens. I especially love mine having extended its runtime with an extension.

I like my Hound Dog Super too. I have the warm tint of 4000K, beautiful! But I a bit disagree with the description that it lacks spill. Actually the spill is super wide and very useful, though it isn't as bright as the reflector spill of ordinary Hound Dog. Having that said I usually prefer narrow spill with throwers, but HD Super is very special. I think because the spill isn't blinding as a reflector spill with equal output it works good with that width.

I do not understand the point of Wildcat of any generation. Yes, it's bright but low lux, it feels like holding a lightbulb with not much throw. Typically with large lights, you want some throw.

Hound Dog "regular" does everything you want, tons of flood and much spill as well. It's what I would use to find a needle in the carpet or something 100 meters away.

If you want just one Malkoff or even just one light, for whatever reason, without a doubt, I would take the MD4 Hound Dog. *IMO*

I really like my Wildcats. Very useful at short range(4th gen. is pretty throwy though) and great companions to throwier lights. I very much appreciate a good flood light because there are situations when a bright hotspot is only a drawback.

I never really said that Super lacks spill. I said it lacks it relatively versus the Hound Dog, which has a lot more spill.

I surely would not turn down a free Wildcat.

Sorry, I expressed it a bit wrong. What I mean is that I personally don't consider it having less spill than ordinary HD. The spill is dimmer but much wider so you could also describe it like it has more spill. Depending of the definition of spill, if it's based on width or intensity.

New England woods.
A single 3000mAh 18650 will power an M61 for a straight week on low. It might get you through 2 weeks of typical intermittent use on low and infrequent use on high. Beyond that, there are plenty of 12V sources to charge a cell from when the power is out.

I do have self sustaining charging options. Push comes to shove even at night from burning wood.

And solar. This panel even does ok with clouds.

Malkoff, with Surefire in the Middle

Picked up this like-new E-series body off ebay and ordered a Malkoff E-series tailcap at the same time. Both arrived today, so I loaded it up with a KeepPower 16650 cell and installed the Bodyguard v.2 head.

Nice!

The body/tailcap combo provides a nice grip, and the Malkoff tailcap is awesome: it allows easy icepick-hold operation of the switch while still retaining tail-standing capability, and prevents the finger lanyard from sliding off the end.

Gotta love Legos!

Malkoff, with Surefire in the Middle

Did the obligatory walk in the dark last night and really like the feel-in-the-hand of this combo!

The Malkoff E-series tailcap! I'm impressed: its design allows excellent control of the switch - and therefore of the light - which for me is very important. The scalloped shroud allows easy access for the thumb, but still provides enough of a barrier to prevent unintentional activation. Of interest is the McClicky is inserted from the inside out, using the rim around the boot to serve as a seal vs. using an O-ring to secure the boot as seen in Malkoff's other designs. This results in the boot standing higher and giving a more tactile feel for the operation of the switch. Gene really did a great job with this tailcap!

Of course, the Bodyguard v.2 head kicks butt. At 1,000 lumens/12,000 lux, it's output is impressive and the 16650 2500mAh cell provides reasonable runtime. It can also run on a pair of CR123A primaries if needed.

I'm not a fan of bezel-up carry and this Surefire body does little to change my mind about that. It does clip securely to the inside of a front pocket and carries comfortably there, but I would rather have the bezel down in my pocket to better protect it. Though I prefer bezel-down carry, thus far this has not proven to be a deal-breaker for me.

In conclusion, I think the results of this Malkoff-Surefire marriage are really impressive: its got performance, functionality and pleasing aesthetics, along with the expected quality and durability. I may need to build a few more.

Lumens Factory is selling clones of the SF two-way clip that would give you bezel down carry.

I will need to check those out! How does the clip attach to the body?

Remove o ring
I use my leatherman pliers to bite and pull down, for your bezel up clip it might just push out. Or you can wrap a string around the clip and pull it down the same way.
