Re: Questions & FAQ - Oveready / TorchLAB

I noticed this on my BOSS 35: When my AW IMR 18350 is at around 3.8v and firing it up at level 28 (17W), there is a slight reduced output change right after a few seconds upon turning it on.

Is this normal? If yes, what I noticed is when changing to the next level... it will stay again on the same level and not progress to the next until another press.

Note: This only happens after the slight reduced output. Per my limited testing if the battery is fully charged, there is no slight reduced output after a few seconds, and when I press the switch to advance to the next level, it advances to the next (performs as it should).

;)

It sounds completely normal, but lets review a few things. v5 has a real time battery monitor and will lower output under all circumstances when it senses the cell is buckling (old/worn/discharged). Even the latest AW 18350 are still small and by 3.8 most of the high amp capacity of the cell is gone. So v5 is avoiding undue stress on the cell by dropping output. In theory this would be level 27, level 26, level 25, etc. But depending how quickly cell output appeared to be dropping the drop may be faster, going directly from say 27 to 20/21/22. And if your medium is setup to mode 21, would appear to go from 21 to 21 at mode change.

A better way to see this happening would be setting the light to DLMH and around 3.8 putting it on medium. Then change to high and see if it returns to medium. If so, there are several ways to see whats happening. Increase 'resolution' by changing modes to say 14/18/20/22 and see how it behaves. Another option is changing to a 70 body with larger cell, also at 3.8 and see if you get the same behavior. An 18650 can push more amps at the same voltage so the monitor (working correctly) would exhibit the same behavior at a lower voltage (say 3.6).

Thank you for the helpful reply. I concur with the real time battery monitor kicking in at this voltage level. I've since adjusted the level down to 26 doing on a H-M-L to help keep the draw lower.

The McClicky is fine with the new DIP. I don't think it draws more amp than a V5. Dan would have told it if it wasn't the case.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to try one but they are gone for now... It was mentioned that 219C will be in the pipeline soon, that's nice too.

Here's a question, Dan.
Did you guys ever make a Moddoolar P60 Head?
I know you do the adaptor and you sold the Cryos heads, just wondered if there was ever a dedicated one?
Thank you.

Oh, you are looking for a P60 bezel to fit the Moddoolar bodies (sorry, didn´t read the Moddoolar in your post the first time I read it :ohgeez:)..... which the smoothie does not. It is like a Z44 just without the hexpart.

We've considered making a complete head but its not smaller and ends up costing more than two parts. But like our Unified models, would offer better thermal performance. What benefit are you after?
