started with an E01 so I could read labels in the supermarket

then graduated to 3 mode copper aaa Maratac w Nichia

the new aaa Fenix is moving in a similar direction, at least as far as number of modes, if not High CRI

The beauty of the Sofirn C01, is it not only does what the orginal E01 does, single mode 5mm LED with tailstanding, it adds High CRI, same as the McGizmo Sapphire. Plus the C01 adds a reversible, hatlamp/pocket clip, and a tritium slot ;-)...
Thanks for the info! I was blissfully unaware. I'll have to pick up a few of the C01s!

Probably it would be good to bump a Sofirn thread and continue that discussion there and leave this one for the topic of the E01 V2. Thanks.

Three mode twisty that can't tail stand. Why would Fenix call this an EO1, because it's not. Poor form Fenix. I won't be buying any. However I was lucky enough to scoop up three new, original EO1's recently from a local vendor.

Just got mine recently and though I've only used it briefly I do like it.

For me it's a perfectly adequate AAA keychain light; 3 modes, twisty so it doesn't tend to turn on in the pocket. The big gripe seems to be that it doesn't tail stand but for me that's irrelevant - it just lives on my keys now.

I'm not a tint snob but it's not offensively cool white for my taste, leaning a bit more of the neutral side of cool if you will. The beam has a good amount of useful spill and I was a bit surprised it actually has a bit of throw as well for its size.

It seems to more resemble the E05 in function than the E01...so perhaps it should have been the E02.5? Of course I would have loved to see a low mode of 1 lumen or 0.5 or less to truly be able to siphon every little bit of power from an AAA.

But for now it seems like a satisfactory offering that should hopefully hold up on my keys for several years to come.

I've been an avid E01 fan for a long time now. I've had many in my possession including a pretty cool one-off (yuji low powered 1.7 lumens courtesy of Vinh). I've bought, I've sold, I've tortured by dragging them behind my car, and throwing them off of 3 story parking garages. This is the first and perhaps the ONLY light I have ever truly loved. This thread makes me sad in a way but it has also spurred me to go back to my roots and I'm on the hunt for a couple of REAL Fenix E01s. This light looks like a great little pocket AAA flashlight, but it doesn't share any DNA of the original so it's just not for me. Bykfixer, run4jc, Scout24, and all of you old school Fenix E01 lovers, thanks for all the great posts, torture tests, and challenges over the years.

For me it looks like a perfect EDC device. Currently I have the E05. Do you think the E01 v2 is as stable as the E05?

few months after the release, finally gets my hand on a Fenix E01 v2.0...

initial measurement with my light-box using a fresh new Panasonic Evolta alkaline shows that the output at turned-On is 5, 30, 105 lumens respectively.

now that I have this year's v2.0 E-series on hand, hoping to find time in next 2 weeks to do a comparison summary review for all 3 models... :grin2:

I use mine a lot- more than I do all my other lights. It seems real stable and the attention to detail is amazing. I'm mainly a maglite fan and I have one of the original E01's that still gets used, but the E01V2.0 gets used more than any of them. I'd prefer 5, 15, 50 with a smaller hotspot, but the way they have it set up isn't bad at all. I could be wrong, but I think it is even neutral white.
Sorry to say though- I am ignorant in regards to the E05, so I guess I may not have properly answered your question.

To me it's an E05 without the parasitic drain.
If I leave a battery in my E05 and use it on occasion one night I go to use it but the battery is dead. I have not discovered whether it does a sudden lights out when voltage gets below X like it has been reported the E05 does.

Something has drained 3 batteries in a year while it sat idle on a night stand.

I realize the physical disconnection thing but mine drains batteries while it is idle.

It's not just you mine had problems as well. I can't explain how or why and thought I bought a bad batch of batteries. Long story short it wasn't the batteries. It's impossible but it happened.

Edit to add: don't want to hijack this thread but I'm glad I'm not the only one who experienced a mechanical switch flashlight draining/killing batteries. No way to explain it

Phew! I'm glad it isn't just me.

I have some vintage incans with a slider switch that pushes a sort of tongue onto the reflector to make contact. Pull toungue away and there is a gap between the reflector and tongue. Yet after a couple of months the batteries are dead. So something somewhere is still active in the circuit.

Thus far my E01v2 has not done that. I pre-ordered it before they shipped to the US. It has the Fenix battery in it with about 10 minutes run time vartying between hi/me and lo.

While this light is really to me a E05 unfortunately all the E05 v1 i had died. At least four or five of them. For absolutely sure it has nothing to do with the original E01 (except the AAA battery) is really E05 v1 which was not reliable.
There is some confusing here, as the E05 was one level light and the E01 being a copy of the Arc AAA was excellent.
Yea i get what Fenix wants to do/move away from the 5mm led and change their image but they managed to create a product not neither here not there.
A pass from me.
