I'm a sucker for old skool lights, and have a 9P on the way. I have a 6P with a 3 mode drop-in & clickie upgrade, and I'm looking for a great option for the 9P I have on the way.

Clickie upgrade seems like a no brainer?

Any recommendations on a drop-in? I know there are SO many out there, but I do want reliability without breaking the bank.

I'm okay with running on primaries, but RCR's seem to be more bang for the buck. That said, 2 cell or 3 cell? 2 cell, am I correct in assuming 17500's?

Thanks in advance.

Omg! Yup not sure what I was thinking. 2X 17500 is it. That's what's in mine.

I'm currently running a M91BN in my C3HA and its fantastic with 2x17500 cells. Alternatively, the M31W nearly matches the original P91 output for simulated vintage with modern tech and the benefit of running off 2xAA cells. Probably don't have to say this but if you go M31 route I'd keep to nimh or L91 cells, not worth the risk of alka-leaks.

I have a single mode Sportac dropin in mine that runs on 2 X 17500's.

Sportac dropins are available with different LED's including a triple nichia.

You may want to bore the 9P to support 2x18500.

I agree 100%
This days capacity of 18500 cells are almost double the capacity of 17500
This means not only you get double the run time per charge, you will also need to recharge half often which means twice life time.

Can you do this for me if that is the route I decided to go?

The great state of Misery (Missouri)
Lumens Factory has a very nice selection of P60 drop ins. I have always been happy with the ones I have purchased.

17nnn cells seem to be a vanishing breed. Who still carries them, and are they worth it instead of using the [slightly] smaller 16nnn equivalents, which all seem to have more capacity these days.

Unfortunately, machining service is not economical at all.
You can add
35mm XCAP to these Genuine 6P which is already brand new and bored out for use 18mm cells and it will make a 2x28500 flashlight just like bored out 9P while you can keep your own 9P body intact for resale value to pay part of your purchase cost. You can even use 69mm XCAP to use 2x18650 for much extended run time. Each XCAP comes with installed McClicky switch and no tail cap needed.
17500 1200mAh
16650 2000mAh
18500 2300mAh

I'm a big fan of the 2 x 18500 P60 light setup, the extra voltage & runtime and how it fits in the hand.
Actually just bought a whole bunch of Panasonic NCR18500A from illumn, not that I really needed them, but wanted to make sure I never was without them. yaknow
...production of larger ev batteries worldwide could snuff out 18500s',, hopefully not.

18500 cells are not super common, but they may be my favorite cell.

A decent triple drop-in with the extra voltage is a fine P60 setup.

Yeah, I'd like to know who the go-to is the 17500 cells these days.

I liked it better when AW was a one stop shop, I sure do miss those days.

I highly recommend Illumn...great seller to deal with in my humble opinion.
