Anyone tried the SF M640DF? I just ordered from Midway and all I own anymore are unprotected flat-tops. I'm wondering if the magnet trick will work for this? It comes with a shitty SF branded protected button top with a micro USB port. I just HATE ports on batteries. Been all over SF's site and read a few PDFs but can't find ANY real info one what amperage and cell length range it requires. IMHO this info should be right on the product page under tech specs....but it's not.

Starting to really regret not spending a little more and going Modlight or Cloud Defense or something. Just watched a few YT videos complaining about flickering and other issues with this model. Several people report that SF warranty people are coming right out and saying they only recommend the CR123A ONLY versions of the light as they are having issue with the 18650 compatible head and the engineers are BAFFLED as to WHY.

I only decided to give SF another try (after many years of using Malkoffs and much more advanced Chinese tech lights) after I got an AR-15 and failed miserably trying to use a BCM mount with my Acebeam L35. I just wanted a simpler/easier and closer M-Lok mount and the new SF M-Lok mount that's built on the Scout Light Pros are a real engineering marvel.

It's a good light. And a good battery. I think I heard it's an LG 3500 battery. Sure fire has said that light needs ten amps and that the Surefire 18650 can meet the demand.

That IS upsetting. I suppose in my case if it's a problem (and maybe if it isn't) I could order that Modlight head for $209...get a litle more lumen out of the deal and triple the candela

I have the Fury DFT. I am using the (older) black Surefire 18650 battery and I believe it is NCR18650GA based. I believe the red one ones with the USB port are as well.
Obviously it is an entirely different model but I am able to use unprotected NCR18650GA batteries in the Fury DFT.
I hope this helps.

Hi I liked your post. In it you said that you ordered from, Midway.I am not familiar with Midway. Would you give me some more information about them, if you have the time. I appreciate your time and help Jim.

They're one of the best and oldest suppliers of all things shooting-related in the U.S. I can recommend them.
