Muyshondt has really disappointed. I will never buy from him again. Am I wrong here?

I... I like tequila. :poke:

The maker clearly stated that the next move in solving this issue is to send it in to be analyzed, whereafter a solution to the problem can be offered. Like it or not, that is his policy. So send in the light and allow Enrique to repair it. If you decide you don't like it after that, sell it. A lot of items are not returnable for refund after use. This is apparently one of them. I have had good experiences with the many Muyshondt lights I have had over the years. Most of those were from the era when he was just doing small runs of lights once in a while rather than having a constant stock so I won't say much beyond that about the man or the brand of late. The two I still have are nice lights and the Mako is a light I will probably never give up.

Never got the Mako, but still have three Aeons in steel, titanium and bronze and the copper Maus that's been the subject of the thread. Nary a problem with any of them.

I just hope this guy/lady never buys an armytek light. At least he/she got a response from Muyshondt and didn't have to provide a blood sample and 19 videos of said problem with light underwater while weaving baskets with palm fronds in the Pacific Northwest to show that the light was not functional. That's a thread for another day though.

Apart from the "damage thing"
(which may, or may not be solved anyway),
the main "problem" to seems to be that suddenly there has the info been given, that "great exclusive, expensive flashlight" is "just a cheapo chinese made thingy"?

Sorry You to learn that ... after being crazy enough paying 300+ ... for a flashlight.
Dont act like a child, Take it like a grown up and as something You learned something from
(and take the makers offer for checking the thing)

Its kind of shocking to see some members ganging up on OP here. If I read correctly the offer to repair/send-in the light was revoked by Muyshondt after all, regardless of whether it may have been offered initially. OP wrote: "He has now stopped responding to my emails. No offer to fix. No offer to replace. No refund. No nada."
We have no choice but to take them at their word here.

Even if the actions taken by the OP were unjustified or too drastic, I dont see that as acceptable, do you? Especially at this kinda Price point, where someone would (justifiably) expect premium service along with a premium product.

In business (especially small-business catering to a niece market) you sometimes take a loss in exchange for good customer service & relations, even if the customer is wrong or unreasonable. I would argue this is one such time. Even with the explicit exception of copper based products from their return policy, the right of the customer to repair should not have been revoked. Thats my take on it.

We do not know the precise interactions between buyer and seller. It could very well have been that the vendor decided there was no use spending more time on the matter. Who are we to judge how someone's return policy is right or wrong? People should get to choose their return policy to some extent. Since the advent of the internet and Amazon, reviews and buyer feedback have been a plus for consumers, right?

If your niece sells a niche product, is she a niche niece?

I do not think the buyer is crying here, rather CPF is a good venue to vent, request opinions, and learn.

Well, if a flashlight is defective, I'd keep it, as I got my money's worth already; I just simply repair it (some flashlight host bodies are actually quite decent when fixed), or just go crazy with customization.

We cannot start to speculate about intent or potentialities, as you said none of us were there. All we have to go by are the OPs posts & for lack of more reliable information we have to take their word as truth. If indeed Muyshondt has cut all contact & revoked the offer to repair, as was alluded to by OP, then I would call that unacceptable behavior. Simple as that, really.

6 months ago I bought a truck where I was told if I traded it back in with under 12k miles that I would only lose $5k.
So I attempted to do that this weekend and was told based on today's market I would lose $12k.
In other words, we all get twisted up into transactions that don't work out as planned.

The issue is that we don't know what kind of attempts at getting a refund have taken place either, considering the attitude here and pushes for getting a refund at any cost at all i can imagine the way the mails went before they stopped responding.

Ya there is something about a maker (especially US based) who claims to make high end technologically innovative flashlights but then has not just no presence in any of the communities/forums but actually has a withdrawn presence being some several years since any public posts or updates (as far as I know to be true anyways correct me if I'm wrong).

Sometimes an absence of communication speaks louder than any words ever could. It's like what is the reason he finally sold enough people on his product that more or less they can sell by word of mouth and old threads and Google searches so he put in enough effort and time to make it lucrative for himself then just kinda stepped behind the curtain.. who does he think he is zebralight??

But at least a zebra ACTUALLY could go to the bottom of the deep blue to the farthest star on a fog light night or whatever mumbo jumbo his site says. Don't get me wrong he makes a very visually appealing light both aesthetically as well as on paper. But I've heard too many horror stories such as yours that luckily the few times I've added the aeon to my cart, I had pre-buyers remorse before I could actually complete the purchase.

I mean I gotta give it to him he knows how to make a buck that's for sure. Make a gorgeous LOOKING light (but call it a torch to be more hip and internationally appealing) then Just create some appealing retro-futureesque 50s comic book themed artwork that damn near any dude or flashlight nerds like us are bound to enjoy. Then just create a couple proprietary terms like "lumicron technology" or "calibre engine" the damn things sell themselves even against all the negative experiences people share.

Nope, you lost me at "secretly developed in Japan during WW2 for the zero fighter plane..."
