I HATE MY OLIGHT!!!

I have a Baton S2 (I think) that was gifted to me. When I got it about a year ago I decided I'd carry it and try it out. It didn't take long for the shine to come off that penny! Firstly, it's short. This means it is forever working it's way out of my pocket and either onto the floor or into some crevice in the chair I'm sitting in (I'm a little fluffy - don't judge). Secondly, it's frigging magnetic. That means you can stick it to things while you work and keep both hands free. It also means that it will attract anything metal in your pockets, on your desk or in your storage tray. At first it was mildly annoying. Now I loathe this feature. Lastly; the UI SUCKS!!! I'm a simple man with simple needs. If I have a flashlight that has multiple settings, I want those settings to make sense. On/off is good, High/Low/Strobe is good. Low/Medium/High/Medium High/Turbo/Strobe/Low/High/Turbo/Low/Medium/High/Strobe/Turbo/High etc. IS NOT OK! I sends me into an frantic OCD attack that usually leads me into a fetal position weeping on the floor. And the light? Oh, it's merrily burning away BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TURN IT THE F@#$ OFF!!! If you do manage to get the correct combination of presses that will magically allow the light to turn off, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will never be the same again. But you can be certain it WILL turn on in your pocket, on High, of course, which you won't notice until you catch the faintest whiff of your clothes burning. Oh, and not to mention the hours of sleep I've lost remembering that I left the thing on the charger and had to get up and go unplug it because of their silly little predilection of bursting into flames every now and again. After a year of trying to like it, I'm done. Into the drawer it goes...hopefully it doesn't magically turn on and burn my house down out of pure spite.

People ask why Olight gets so much hate...gee, I wonder 😕

Olight makes very few lights worthy of my money, the UI is just 1 reason. You didn't list poor CRI on most/all of their lights or the use of proprietary batteries, the other 2 of the 3 things they do that sucks in my opinion. That said the few [& I mean FEW] Olights I do have work well

Olight i5T EOS is neat, here's a review. Two constant current modes, forward clicky. Brain dead simple interface, low and high. Can still be found in titanium.

Of all Olight models, it's the only one I can stand. But it does have a plastic lens, which is pressed in and gets destroyed removing it, so swapping the LED is difficult to impossible. But among the cool white LEDs, the Osram P9 doesn't bother me as much as others.

I have the I5R EOS, which is the rechargeable version. I do enjoy that light a lot. As you said, the simplicity makes it awesome to use, and it takes regular 14500s as opposed to most of their lights using propriateries.
I also like the i1R2 Pro keychain light. Super simple with only two modes and rechargeable. The neutral white version is really nice.

I cant get along with many of those overly complex modern lights aswell, which is why I stick to simple designs nowadays. Most complicated lights I own are Zebras but they are actually very simple to use when it comes down to it.

I look at many of these complex UIs like a big swiss army knife. Can do a bit of everything, but nothing really well + its very cumbersome. Stick to the dedicated tool whenever possible. On/Off, one or two modes. All I need.

Can you hit it from 100 yards? that should end your problems with the light, lol.

Yeah, I feel ya JZ! It's abundantly clear that OL doesn't want to make lights for people like me. I'm clearly not in their target demo. They made ONE (1) that I thought might be acceptable, so I bought it just on principle. I wouldn't say I love it, but I admit, it's not that bad (purely from a use perspective). Someone else can have all the others. I bought the M1T 'Raider' when it was first released (because at least on paper it fit me), but it was promptly discontinued (as is their habit); but not before they did one of their famous stealth post-release product changes (changed the 'tap-double tap' interface from H-L to L-H). They've been guilty of some pretty EDIT: unconscionable egregious engineering screwups since then, and I wouldn't want another of their offerings if it was free! Whoever gave that one to you should've given you an original M1T - you might have actually liked that one a little! It was a one-time thing though, and was 'out of character' for them.

The mode cycle should be tap to turn on/off. When on, hold briefly to cycle low, medium, high. Double tap for turbo. Triple tap for strobe. It will remember the last mode low, medium, or high. If turned off in turbo it should turn on in high. Most Olights work just like this. The Perun headlamps replace the strobe with S.O.S. blinking.

Leaving the magnetic charge cable connected (MCC1 or MCC3) should be no problem. It won't overcharge.

If you want an Olight that's dead simple and bright, there's the Javelot Mini. Poke the tail button all the way and it's on bright. Half press and release quickly it's on low. Half press and hold, it'll go low and shut off when released. Full press and hold, it'll go high shut off when released.

That's all it does. No turbo, no strobe, no SOS.

Grab yourself a HCRI i5R while Olight still has them. It's high CRI Osram P9 is no Nichia by any means, but as a high CRI light among standard Olights, it's a god among insects. I really wish they'd put one in the i3T and their other discontinued regular switched, 2 mode "tactical" lights.

BTW, JZ - I forgot to ask. Not to carry on about it, but is yours one of the models I referred to non-specifically in my post which has live potential (voltage - sufficient to source some not-insignificant current) terminated on the metal tailcap (which is magnetic to better attract random conductors, of course), which people were posting videos of on YT of them torching steel wool with it and such, and which heated up metal things in people's pockets, and last but not least would alternately just randomly turn on in MAX upon such random contacts with conductive items in people's pockets and set fire to their britches? Is it one of those, or some other model? . If it's one of those, you have every right to be even more upset than you are, and I'm very happy to hear that you've retired it for good. Enough of my Dennis Miller rant

I always thought Olight were popular here. Especially those complicated kind. But then again around here folks say a 2 lumen maglite solitaire sucks because it isn't bright enough but ATQ 5447 on mega low 0.005 lumens is way too bright.

To be honest I never cared much for his snarky polictal comedy while a member of Saturday Night Live. He just wasn't funny
