The original clip ate my pockets, which I suppose meant that it was too tight. Maybe the thinner clip solves this by loosening the pocket grip.

I could be mistaken, but seems like there is a strong loyalty bias here, such that if I like x, if I think x is good, then everything about x is good; I take some offense if there is any criticism of some part of x, and I am compelled to defend it. Across the forums there is often the complement of loyalty bias, such that if there is some minor detail about x that I don't like, then x is entirely bad. Both positions are, of course, ridiculous.

Nothing is perfect, not even Zebralight: the tint lottery, a driver that is not constant current, even new product that is often on backorder, and discontinuing popular models without notice. But what is desirable about Zebralight is also unique to Zebralight, so we can overlook and live with flaws, and sometimes make adjustments to mitigate them. But insisting the flaws do not exist or that they are ideal for our purposes just comes off as complete nuttiness, you know, beyond the ordinary nuttiness of being obsessed with flashlights.

Not having seen or used the new clip, I can not say for certain, but I thought the original clip was too thin as it was. Metal is hard, skin is soft, and thin metal can become a blade, and even a dull blade can slice skin with enough force. Zebralight only increases its quality and utility by allowing clips to be removed and replaced, which I appreciate because I prefer a thicker clip and one that is deep carry.

Is it the clip itself that's tearing up your pocket or the fins on the head?

I haven't bought an SC model since the SC52 L2, so I'm trying to get an idea of what the clips on newer models are like.

After a couple months of carry, it gave me a clip-shaped channel through my pockets. It wasn't the shallow fins. It was the clip, too tight and thin, wearing through my pockets from clipping and unclipping. I'm not the only one, and I wasn't the first to discover this. Some will place something thick between the clip and body and leave it overnight to relax the clip a little, and I did this, too. It made the clip a little looser, but it didn't have any positive effect on my pockets.

You can always sew on a pocket reinforcement patch similar to what Wrangler offers on the Ranger work pants.
Especially if that specifically limits which lights you will use.

Clip-torn pockets is just part of EDC life :D
Malkoff clips don't eat pockets
After 5 Zebralights, I do not remember any of them getting loose screws
I haven't seen loose screws on Zebralights, wasn't want I meant when described the clip becoming looser. As clips are bent, molecules in the metal rub past each other. Though probably undetectable clipping ordinarily and infrequently, this produces heat, and the metal weakens by breaking some of the bonds that hold the molecules together. The more the clip is flexed, the more bonds break, and the elastic effect will reduce and relax with repetition. The effect is less pronounced with thicker metal yet more so with thinner metal.

Just got my latest I think it brings me to about 20 +/- 5 or so, Zebra lights. I can stop any time though.

When we say things like this, it is basically a non-commitment made out of stubbornness. It's likely we believe these things because if we got ourselves into it, we can get ourselves out of it. The idea is that, if we just exercised enough discipline and willpower, we could stop. It's just not that simple or easy, and it ignores the complicated chemical changes that take place in our brains. We may desperately want to quit. But we may also have gained a dependence on indulging in desires that makes it virtually impossible. Stopping will require a massive, unimaginable sacrifice, and the honest truth is we may never feel normal again.

Weird -- I have never seen this behavior.
It was new to me as of 3 days ago. I get flashes in my peripheral vision from time to time. So late at night while on my laptop, I started getting flashes and thought it was by vision problem acting up. But the flash was repeating at regular intervals and more than I'd ever previously experienced. Finally I turned in the direction of the flash still thinking it was all in my eye. Then I was blinded by the light. Turns out it was my H502 on low battery. The first time that's happened. Ever. The Eneloop had been in the 502 for years!

I would not use Li-ion in the new 519a; not worth taking a chance. Who's to say all units would be ok with the additional energy.

Been using vapcell H10 Lith-Ion for 17 months edc with no issues!

Decent thread on reddit that explains why 14500 Lith-Ion can be used.
SC53 with 14500

Driver Link for 53 lights:
PDF of actual driver LTC3539-2 used in these lights.

When Zebra upgraded from the SC52 to the SC53 etc. models they needed memory room in the Firmware to add the G6 & G7 programed levels. On the 53 models they removed from the Firmware the battery chemistry detection feature that was on the 52 models... Hence the capacitor glitch when changing chemistries. (easily remedied by pressing the button to discharge the capacitor before changing battery chemistries.)

On 53 models putting a battery in backwards RPP seems to drain the battery at around 1 amp.
Test of Reverse Polarity Protection

SC5 eneloop lights can also use Lith-Ion with about a 15% boost in H1

Mine arrived today. I staged it next to my only other ZL, SC50w+

Seems like their build quality has gotten much more refined.

stupid newbie question before I read the manual, after I set my mode arrangement, how do I instantly power on to the medium setting? a quick tap goes to H1, a long press goes to L2... I am sure its going to be a slight button press curve, I am coming from Olights..

Thanks everyone
