    Dynamo bike light build

Sure, they do. This is primarily just a project for the sake of trying a few things out. I already have a Busch & Mueller Cyo Premium which is a pretty decent pre-built dynamo light. My progress on this current light can be seen at: https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?t=157643

    Dynamo bike light build

Hi all, A few years back I did a dynamo bike light build, which I documented here (https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/5x-cree-xm-l-dynamo-light-in-progress.385350/). I'm planning another one now. But I might get stuck if it gets too complicated. Seems like DIY dynamo topics have died...

Axa Pico 30 dynamo front lamp

Thanks all. Belatedly, I had a go at sketching out the circuit. You can see it here: https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=120923&p=1307428#p1307428 I haven't actually tested it - the light may be fine. It only intermittently cut out (on fast descents) - so not a permanently shorted...

Axa Pico 30 dynamo front lamp

Hello all. After about four years my Axa 30 Pico dynamo light started to become unreliable, cutting out at speed. I've since replaced it with a different light, but thought I would take a look inside to see if it could be salvaged or repurposed. The images can be accessed here...

DIY conversion of old battery light to dynamo powered

You can see my similar project here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?385350-5x-Cree-XM-L-dynamo-light-(in-progress) It's quite the opposite of your original aims of a legal (i.e. German-legal) light. And it's conspicuous unless you design it to be entirely removable. But it...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

A zener should effectively clamp the voltage, but at high bike dynamo voltages the power dissipation can be unmanageable. It might not be passing 0.5A, but if the current rises above anything trivial, the zener will probably fry. Overvoltage protection is usually a problem for USB chargers...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

If you're using the forumslader circuit, and run the light off/parallel to the li-ion battery, you may not have to worry about the standlight at all. Your light will run off the battery, so when you stop, the light will just continue running at the same brightness. The only thing that will...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

Looking at the forumslader link above, it looks like there are two circuit diagrams, one with a normal forward-biased diode on the ground pin of the 12V regulator, the other with a zener. I think the idea is to regulate to match either 3 li-ion cells in series, or 4. With the normal diode, the...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

I might have read your diagram wrong, but if you switch between either the main light or the USB/li-ion system, and the standlight runs off the USB/li-ion system, then the standlight relies on something outside of the light. I.e. you would need to switch over to the USB/li-ion system to charge...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

I used the circuit at post 70. To be honest, I don't think it will be enough for you, as you've mentioned you want up to an amp. The basic standlight circuit might get 15 to 50mA only. So lumens barely into two figures. Still the basic standlight is good as a baseline - i.e. you can incorporate...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

When the supercap is charging it will take current from away from the light, but the exact amount will depend on the supercap. Most people using this setup use 'memory backup' coin caps (as they are small, relatively cheap, and one of the more available caps at 5.5V - and it's what almost all...

Standlight and Martin's Circuit 12 help please!

If you look at http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?210602-Standlight-circuits-(Will-this-circuit-work-)&p=2706860&viewfull=1#post2706860 the right-hand side of that circuit gives a nice, easy 'be seen' standlight with simple components. On the Pilom circuit 12 diagram you linked...

Bike tail light for city use

Anyone seen this? It's supposed to be using a Cree X-PE: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O34AIXS/ I wonder if it will fit an 18650?

    Bicycle lights verses flash lights?

Of course, it's a compromise, but many, many car headlights over-illuminate the foreground too, even when adjusted optimally. Sometimes pointlessly, as the driver may not even be able to see the patch of ground immediately before the car. If the goal is to create absolutely even levels of...

    Bicycle lights verses flash lights?

It really depends on the beam width, and the shape within the beam. And the height you wish to mount the light at.
