"This light is not new." Has (at least) two possible meanings:
a) This light was purchased used.
b) This light was not purchased recently.
A year after buying most consumer items, I would no longer consider or call them "new", even if I didn't buy them used.
Oh the joys of linguistic...
My wife is an RN in an emergency room and she uses her Peak Eiger QTC (Nichia 219 with momentary) for precisely this purpose regularly. Looking for "consistent results" is perhaps not entirely reasonable given how QTC works, but you can keep the momentary from getting too bright too quickly by...
I was in the same situation as the OP ... this is what I did and it's a very good option. Received the light from Don very quickly and no regrets. My Haiku gets used every day, usually several times. And did I mention no regrets?
With that said, I could easily see myself getting a HDS...
The Peaks are fairly petite (Logan 17500 with mule measures just 3 and 5/8ths" long and 3/4" diameter); from the sounds of it, not what you are looking for.
One point of correction, however; Oveready Logan heads come in several emitter flavors, including both optic (throw) and mule (pure...
If the Eiger is too small, check out the Peak Logan 17500 with mule head -- Eiger on 'roids. And with the battery adapters it can happily munch on lots of different battery sizes and chemistries. In XPG2 flavors it comes close to or exceeds your 300 OTF too.
Dave,
the Peak lights use QTC (quantum tunneling composite, iirc) instead of a modes. In principle, it makes them "infinitely" variable: the harder it is compressed the more current QTC passes, which makes the light get brighter. In practice, it's can be a bit finicky sometimes, though my...
Not that I'm aware of, but I haven't done an exhaustive search either.
Matt, my pleasure! Just passing along info others have produced. :D I use Krytox (actually a repackaged version: Christo-lube) for my stainless, anodized aluminum and Titanium lights too. Really smoothed my stainless...
There's a huge lubrication thread on CPF. Lots of information and probably some misinformation too. What I took away from it was that the optimal lubrication depends on what material / metal the light is made of. So the answer will depend on which Logan body you purchased. Also, be aware...
My wife is an ER nurse. She swears by HI CRI for accurate assessment of skin, sores, mucus, tissues, orifices, etc. For medical uses, I think she's exactly right -- color is a critical component of visual assessment and should perhaps trump lots of other factors. (My wife uses a Peak Eiger...
dunno if they were around "back then", but Peak Eigers are wonderful AAA lights imho. Although I have much more expensive lights, my Eiger (SS with Nichia 219 -- from Oveready) is my most used light by far because it's virtually always with me. They don't make anything "obsolete", but they run...
Seems there's some variation in either the angle of the bend itself and / or where Jason bends the clip then, because I would have to physically deform the clip to get it to mount on mine. And if I did about the only thing I could get under it would be a sheet of paper -- it would be resting on...
Thanks for the update about the extended delay.
Jason's titanium clips work well for Eigers (I have one installed), but the larger radius of Logan 17500 makes it a no go: the clip bends down too soon and hence it will not seat on the Logan properly. Not meaning to be smart or pout, just...
Haiku arrived. A tad larger than I expected, but truly a beautiful object. Will have to wait for darkness to see how it works as a tool, but I'm fairly confident I shall be just as pleased on that score. Thanks Don for the quick turnaround!
None of the above. I'd get a Malkoff MD2 with hi-lo ring. Currently on sale for $89 straight from Malkoff. UI is perfect: tail switch on, twist head to change brightness.
