How is the current Hound Dogs beam at close distance? Artifacts? Rings? They used to have textured reflectors didn't they, now its TIR lens with smooth reflector? Just curious how that affects close-distance performance. If anyone wants to share a beam shot (especially at low mode) that would be great.

It's not too bad for such a large, throw-focused optic. I can take some shots when I get home. It's a little artifact-ey, however the more concentrated overall beam profile means it's a bit more usable up-close than the old single tight hotspot and very wide but dim spill of the reflector versions.

An optic will never be as nice as a reflector, but I find these optics much more than acceptable in every regard. The HD XP-L Neutral became instantly one of my favorite lights. Still is!

Internal switch threads, internal switch o-ring, switch itself seats into the housing and is protected. Even so, #208 at the rear and #115 up front with unprotected Moli P42A and M50 is not a problem. Appreciate the ability to unthread the tailcap without affecting lanyard wraps. Easier to actuate than the standard shrouded tailcap.

Adamlau, Malkoff site photo was misleading for me. So, tailcap has no notch or cut-out for thumb, appears ramped (beveled) for making button easily functional?

Ease of actuation (versus the standard 18650) is due to 1) the (slightly) increased width of the 21700 tailcap i.e. greater surface area to make contact with and the 2) tailcap edge which does indeed bevel in towards the button. The grip notches are clearly meant to ease threading/unthreading.

HD XP-L Cool (TIR) low off of 2x18500 @ just under 3 meters...

Always have great conversations with Gene. Just like talking to an old friend.

We got to talking about the MD2 Camo anodizing, and the other colors. Apparently the camo was a creation of one particular worker, who was just no longer there at one point. Fascinating how such a thing can come and go like that!

Regarding how the M61/31 dropins work, which we were talking about a few pages back, the M31's are boost drivers, and the M61s are buck drivers. Makes a lot of sense, when you think about it! (and maybe after Gene explained it to me, at length.....) and the gist of this is that for the M61s you have to lower the total cell voltage and in the M31s you have to raise the voltage of the cell for the LED to operate.

ALSO, it would appear that the 21700 cell tube is something that is planned to stay, and let's just say something more "Devastating" is coming down the road.....

In other news.... should I torture test the MD21700???? I can't put mine down (22 cren bezel w/ M61 W LL), such a killer setup! I wonder what it'll take to kill it. Already dropped it a few times on tile and cement. That's just life for my stuffs though.....

Just keep throwing it in the air and landing on concrete or asphalt, it will break at some point.

OK Thermal but just for you.....

Devastating = Devastator = M4 Devastator = MD4 21700 - that was my logic late last night with some whiskey at least.

21700 MD4 is in the works! It's a ways out yet (no definitive timeline) but it's going to happen. So no worrying about having to trouble Make Martin D White with such a task ;)

I didn't think to ask about other heads or such, he keeps those pretty close to the chest anyways. How is everyone liking their 21700 bodies? IDK about that daffy... but I will put that in the line up for sure, realistically just the right small hit or little knock can kill ANY electronic device, no matter how durable it is designed. Another supporting argument for the Chaos Theory...

I want to put the extreme heights and bangs last. Just to make sure i get more realistic tests in first. I think a couple dozen drops from 3-9 feet are definitely in order up front though.

I was hoping that's what you meant. Be nice for the supper HD. And knowing how gene thinks I'm better he's got some hot stuff coming down the road to use them with.

Really depends on what they are willing to settle with in terms of amp draw. We see Convoy pushing 1x21700 to 8A, but don't expect Malkoff to push it that high with the Keeppower 50E. Definitely curious what they plan on doing given the 21700 power ceiling...

Neutral was always available but you had to ask Cathy for one when ordering. I see now they're listing SST-20 4000k, Nice! They might just sell the head separate for those who already own 2AA bodies. Also see 1AA bodies are being sold separately now as well

Edit, Now why did TG post double when all I did is click reply?

TG just noticed your new avatar, that Chihuahua looks related to Marty Feldman lol
