I'm a feature hating curmudgeon looking for something exact.

Absolute musts:
1. Momentary on pressure switch tailcap ONLY, no clicks!
2. Single high output 500+ lumens ONLY, no dual/multi modes or programmables!
3. Strike bezel
4. Retention strap ideally or lanyard

Optional icing:
1. Water resistant to more than 1 meter
2. Rechargeable

Any suggestions that can at least meet 1-3 would be greatly appreciated!

Elzetta bravo or charlie with twist tailcap. B551 & C551 respectively. They run on cr123, non rechargeable. I think you can use 16340 in bravo but you loose capacity. Lanyard ring for Elzetta is available on their site. Malkoff MD2 meets criteria except momentary only, but you could use a Z41 style twist tailcap and just use that. I tried it with 6p tailcap and it works fine. MD2 has clip option with hole for lanyard/strap attachment.

My personal choice would be Surefire p2x Fury Defender, but they are no longer made and later versions came with click tailcap. You could use single 16650 with those no problem. Surefire G2ZX meets all but no strike bezel and dunno about 16650, likely at reduced output. Lumens factory sells Z26 lanyard ring compatible with Surefire Fury.

Surefire G2X tactical is close to what you're looking for.
That is very close, basically just a new version of the 6P which it seems like half of surefire's current line is.

I've got an old 6P currently but it's just lacking in output. That and it's getting difficult to keep it going. Bulb went out a couple years ago or so, finally, took about a decade. I got a malkoff drop in. But the head was beaten so badly I had to replace it. OEM heads were going for as much as a whole new light so I went aftermarket and of course that was just far enough off spec so the lens doesn't quite install right. But I did get it together, only to find that even with the malkoff drop in, which is supposed to have higher output, this thing doesn't even outshine ambient light from street lamps. So I think I have to move on.

Anyway I love my old 6P so the G2X looks good to replace it. Except I really want that strike bezel so...

Oof I checked out the Elzettas and they look like $200 6Ps! I love the 6P so that's not so bad except that's a ridiculously steep price for one.

The defender looks great and I found one for 150, still a little steep for a 6P but not as bad as the elzettas and has good output I'm thinking about it.

I also stumbled on the E2D Defender which is still in production but has a click on tailcap and I think a low output mode. Is there a single output version and are there any momentary on only tailcaps available for it?

Current E2Ds comes in two version -- Tactical (single mode) and Ultra (two modes). Both are have clicky switches. E2D's head uses a focused TIR. Personally, tailcap switch provides hard pressure that it takes more to actually engage the clicky switch.

E2T-MV Tactician is another of SF's current line up. It's small head, without crenelations, is oriented towards flood (known as Max-Vision beam) and has a minimal hotspot. It has two-modes -- activated by twisting the head - loose for low, tighten for high. BUT -- the tailcap is tactical-type twisty or press to engage -- almost similar to the old G2.

Worth noting that g2x tac. has clicky tailcap and runs on cr123. Running it on 16650 will work but with reduced runtime and output.

Elzetta is not cheap but indestructible. 150$ for fury defender is about original price. New old stock? Defender is fantastic + full regulation on liion 16650 but make sure your version has twist tailcap. You can use Z26 lanyard ring with it and it has everything you want.

You might also consider adding an aftermarket strike bezel to whatever light you ultimately select. There are several reputable sellers among this community's supporters, and dozens online. I recommend selecting the light first; the bezel bling is the easiest bit to source afterwards.

I second the Elzetta Bravo with momentary rotary tail cap, strike bezel, and 500 lumens. It meets your first 3 requirements and your optional icing with 16650 rechargeables and water resistance.

How about a maglite magtac. Only 320 lumens but you'd never notice, especially with the really intense hotspot/high lux. Needs a double click to stay on. Hold for momentary. But a very nice soft electronic switch. Has a strike bezel.
Depends on how you're carrying it, it's also a tube light. So much more comfortable in the pocket than the others mentioned
