    Nightmaster V2 XR-E RZ9002MT-S V Nightmaster 2MT-M XR-E EZ900

I have the NightMaster, using the red emitter which I like a lot, and remember having the same sort of question. I was wondering if adding this extra battery would boost the output. Answer: No. The output is regulated by the Light Engine with the output being the same regardless of the extra...

    Cryos Illumination's Triple Function Light

Why is this like pulling teeth? My main question is how long the light will operate (at room temp) at full output until the control system backs off the level? This is a basic, fundamental question for any light proposed to be used in video or photography.. When taking video using a...

High CRI emitter isn't so High CRI if its output spectrum isn't fully collimated

There is nothing secret about what the McGizmo Sundrop is doing. This exact same type of light (aspherical) has been used in theaters, movies, TV, forever to project a beam of light on a subject and make them look as good as possible. There are other types of lights used by the pros but the...

    What's your most impressive flashlight?

Took a look at the Armytek and the only McGizmo model in the same class would be the Makai which will set you back over $600 with the addition of the clip. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?312060-Wave-of-Makai-6V-XM-L-lights Here's a picture of my Makai with 1/4"-20 clip...

High CRI emitter isn't so High CRI if its output spectrum isn't fully collimated

Yes, I believe that is correct. I recall his writing about the development of the Mule but don't see it right off hand. See http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?298316-Titanium-Mule-Wave I don't normally photograph walls, but I do photograph people against walls. Here's an...

    Cryos Illumination's Triple Function Light

This begs the question: What's the runtime, before the 60C cutoff, at full output at room temp? Also, is the 60C thermal triggered shutdown a hard shutdown that requires the light to be turned back on or does the light come back on by itself after cool down?

    Cryos Illumination's Triple Function Light

Well then, what is the (too hot) cutoff temp for this temp chip? Does the case always remain cool enough to hold with a bare hand or will gloves be required? Got to assume that with this thing putting out so much light it's going to get really hot. Plus, unlike a standard flashlight...

    Cryos Illumination's Triple Function Light

What's the thermal performance? Does the light stay touch cool when driven at full output for an hour plus? What happens when the user goes to reduce the output, after an hour at full output, is the knob still cool to the touch? If this design does stay touch cool at full output, then that is...

    Cryos Illumination's Triple Function Light

Just became aware of this project and, since I regularly use a flashlight in my photography, was immediately interested. One question that I have is will the driver be constant current? That is, when the output is set, will the driver compensate, when the battery level starts dropping, to...

    Why Not McGizmo ?

I came to CPF for the sole purpose of finding the best flashlight for use in photography. The McGizmo lights, specifically the Mule and Sundrop models, are essentially the only flashlights made with photography in mind. The McGizmo 1/4"-20 clip, something that no other light has, made McGizmo...

    Yi Light AK21 Review

Any US distributor for the Yi Lights? Love the way they mention the 1/4"-20 mounting hole on the Yi webpage: "8. Tactical gear with fixed tapping hole to put on 1/4 holder." Okay.....

    Yi Light AK21 Review

Thanks for the pics showing the light on a tripod. Looking hard, I see that you did mention that it could be attached to a tripod. My brain was only looking for the 1/4"-20 designation. This is a very handy feature that I would like to see on more flashlights. Will likely pick one of these...

    Yi Light AK21 Review

No mention in this review about the 1/4"-20 mounting hole in the grip ring. This is a handy feature, especially for photographers, since this is standard mounting for ball heads, tripods, etc.

I dropped a Sunwayman V11R. Now it won't turn on.

Should have been clearer. What I meant was the surface mount solder connections for components, not the components themselves. That's why potting works. With the components locked in place, the shear forces from a drop are mitigated.

I dropped a Sunwayman V11R. Now it won't turn on.

The weakest physical link for a modern flashlight are the surface mount devices eg as the LED emitter and any component on the driver board.

    $25 3W RGB flashlight

Pretty decent, really. It will throw a nice solid circle of color on the ceiling. About the same or more than a Kroma (which is the only comparison that I have). The plus is that it is a very nice, distinct circle rather than the mess that the Kroma throws up there. The UI is also pretty...

    $25 3W RGB flashlight

Update: Got one of the Color Shine flashlights from thinkgeek.com As a photographer, I think that this is a pretty nice item. Just the thing for adding a touch of color in a background or a highlight. I tore it apart and it is indeed a single 3w led with three (RGB) elements in a single four...
