    That is the one that gives the highest output. If you want a tad longer runtime (and can accept slightly lower output): VTC6. Aspire is the best 18350, but unfortunately (not only runtime) output drops a bit.

    If you’ve had a chance to try out high CRI in real life you would know that high CRI matters more than a few extra lumens in helping out to see details. (That is if you have full color vision of course.) Everything also looks nicer with high CRI. So YES, we need high CRI.

    I’m not denying that TomE (who’s a gifted developer) wrote Narsil and the V1 code for D4. But ToyKeeper did enhance the V1 code for D4 into V2, with for example better heat management.

    The SC600Fd is a great light; but since it's THREE TIMES AS EXPENSIVE as the D4, the comparison is a bit unfair.

    Increase your budget slightly and get the USD 40:- Emisar D4. There is nothing on the market in the same price range that even comes close.

    It's sad, 40 years ago they made the best lights available (for an affordable price). Now the majority of other lights are better in ALL respects (including price). Moral: Don't fall asleep on the watch, always keep improving.

    Manker E14 does fit the bill: - single 18350 or 18650 size - 1000+ Lumens - 4000k 90+ CRI Nichia 219C (x4) - USD 52:- - great UI (by ToyKeeper)

    Go with the Manker originals instead of Astrolux. Manker have successfully dealt with their QC problems.

    Penlight for a med school student

    It's not. Not even neutral tint nor high CRI, so it's pretty useless for medical tasks. Not to mention that it's horribly expensive. It's sad but 4Sevens, who used to make great innovative lights, no longer cuts it.
