Surefire A2 Aviator. Pics, Patent and Serial numbers

Re: Surefire A2 Aviator When is SF introducing an all LED A2 and are there any details about it yet? Is it still going to be an A2 in size and shape? I knew they intended to make the UA2 and UB2 but those are quite a bit bigger than an A2.

    Lumens factory A2 lamp assembly

I'd like an unfrosted one too and would like to know where to get it. Already ordered the frosted model.

Why Does Surefire Make Bezel Up Clips?

I haven't had a light yet with a bezel down clip but I think I'd prefer that. I'll find out if I do prefer it when the Kroma Mil Spec arrives. Also the lights I've tried with the bezel up clip that supposedly clip onto a cap...the brim of the cap seems to flop down when trying that. As is the...

Surefire m3 lamp :Expensive lessons learnt

Ouch...$30 USD right there. If I were you I'd call Surefire and see if they'll replace it free because I've dropped spare incan lamps for an A2 Aviator on several occasions and they never broke by being dropped...I did however yank one in half accidentally after it got stuck in a spares...

    Should I get a SF M3?

Sboza is right about a lot of forum members going berserk buying lights. I've got an M3T, purchased specifically to use to spot coyotes at night & whack 'em. It's the only throwmonster of a light I own and if you have a need for it, it is definitely worth the price. It has a tighter beam than...

    M6 vs the streetlights

The ones in Melb appeared to have sensors but I think they were mounted on posts quite a bit higher than those in some American cities. Richard

    A2 tune up thread

I tested the incandescent beam outdoors by pointing it at a barn about 110 yards away. Prior to disassembly, I made index marks on the lamp assembly as well as the the head. There was no need to index the LED ring because the LED ring was already marked with the red dot that Surefire placed on...

    A2 tune up thread

Sanding the LED's definitely does knock out some of the throw of the incandescent...also it appears to have altered the incandescent's spill beam significantly, creating spots and rings which is probably why Surefire doesn't do this, so I'll get finer grits and work up to 1500 or 2000 or higher...

    A2 tune up thread

I just bought a 2mm Phillips screwdriver and used it for the LED sanding on one of my red A2's. I had no sanding sponge so used a small piece of dry 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper to buff each LED and the red beam is now very smooth. It does however appear that the farther toward the base that each...

    more regulated incans?

I would think that it would theoretically be possible to stick a regulator into Surefire battery extension tubes then plop them into an M2 or M3 or M4 merely by changing resistors. If practical this would add a regulator for the length of an extra battery. Unfortunately I know zilch about...

Question on regulating SF M2, M3, M4 output....

Surefire makes a single 123A extender that fits onto some of the M series bodies between the body and the tailcap. I think the part number is A19. Does a regulator have to be at the front or can it be anywhere on the light? If the regulator can be placed at the rear then I'm curious could the...

    Ordered my first SF A2

[ QUOTE ] Penguin said: Then agian 357, doesn't Surefire tend to under-rate their lumens ratings? I remember Peter Gransee got a integrating sphere reading of 81 lumens from the Surefire E2e which Surefire claims to only give off 60 lumens. So the three nichias are probably pumping out a couple...

    Ordered my first SF A2

Ian, To my eyes, low level is usually plenty to see anything within 10 or 15 feet if in a dark area and anything more than the low output of the A2 will trash your vision, if your eyes have really adapted to the darkness, and if your eyes are completely adjusted for darkness the A2's white beam...

    Ordered my first SF A2

I tend to consider the A2 to be a no compromise light since it replaces at least two other lights and in my experience is ideal for almost every situation I've ever needed to have portable light. Richard.

When do you change batteries in incandescent?

The only incandescents I have are two Surefire A2's and a Brinkmann Maxfire and a couple of old Maglites. With the A2's I do it when the incandescent poops out. With the Maxfire I want to do it after ten minutes use because the diminishing unregulated output gets really annoying...I no longer...

Why the uninitiated like the Mag

Outside of the North America and Europe, generally speaking, Mag is the best you can get...in other parts of the world they are still the standard police duty light. Also they LOOK better than anything else at a place like K-Mart. And the aluminum case is durable. Too bad nothing they put into...
