help wanted making a simple like for airsoft

a while ago I built some bike lights which though very simple do work very well and I fancy making a light for airsofting on the cheap. My bike lights used a philips masterlin MR16 bulb, an old bike light housing, standard cermic socket and was just connected to the battery via a couple of 4mm...

delta V cut off advice on battery charger

my multi pupose battery charger doesn't seem to be cutting off the charge cycle and I'm not quite sure why. It's putting much much more juice into teh cells then they hold and seemed to be staying at around 1.56v (charger reading my volt meter gets less from the battery maybe 1.42v or so) for...

over discharge of NiMH (after advice)

for cost reasons I ended up building my bike light battery pack with 2 lots of AA cells in parrallel rather then a single lot of C cells I got a problem with a cell falling out of one pack and then reconecting causing overdischarge of some cells (thankfully I check the cells quite often so it...

    silly charging question

I bought a fancy charger to use with my bike lights and anything else I get that needs charging. The charger can be seen here http://www.alshobbies.com/shop/lookupstock.php?pc=6209&Desc= I've modified a PC power supply to provide me with a 12v (or there abouts) power source for the charger...

    streamlight twin task on rechargables

I assume the LEDs would work if I got a single long rechargable cell and I thought the bulb from the single cell would fit in the two cell light but really I'd like to use 2 cr123 sized cells so that I can use one in a QIII. Does anyone know if the LEDs would handle this and a bulb that I could...

    regulator help (for bike lights)

I'm curently getting 14.6v with one bulb with batteries which have been fully charged then left for a day. It drops to 13.9 with two bulbs though and would like to get a regulated 15volts to the bulbs. the power supply is made up of 24AA cells 2parrallel by 12 series but I could change it to 24...

has anyone made flashing bike lights?

I was just thinking it would be really cool if you could have two LED units and have them on a slow flash for road use (or one constantly on and the other flashing) You could get really it it and put a trigger switch near your thumb to activate a 8Hz strobe if someone runs infront of you trying...

    bike light beam angle advice

in brief I'll have two 20watt IRC bulbs at 14.6volts with one bulb running. I'm going to get a 8degree spot but I'm not sure if I should go for a osram 24degree flood or a philips masterline 36degree flood the battery pack is a NiMH pack that should give me about 5ah what would you suggest?

finding 10w and 20w MR16 in UK and advice

I've been tinkerin with my bike lights and want to make some further changes. at the moment I'm getting the bits to make a more efficient battery pack. The plan is to build a pack using 24AA cells giving 14.4volts with 5Ah I was running 14cells giving 16.8 but I think the cheap battery holder...

    increasing circiut conductivity

I have some modded bike lights and at the moment it's a very simple mod but I'd now like to try and get more volts to the bulbs by sorting out what I think will be a fairly big drop in voltage due to teh stuff I've used. I've currently got two banks of ten AA cells too provide a 12volt source...

    NiMH cell question

I know that mixing different brands is a bad idea as is mixing fully charged cells with ones which aren't. Is it also a bad idea to mix cells which have gone through a differnt number of cycles?

bike light help (NiMH power supply)

I've just switched from using a lead acid battery at 6volts to using AA cells to make up a 12volt system for my bike lights. The units use MR16 bulbs, each one is 20watts For some reason it only last for about 15minutes before it goes really dim. Since it's got 2.5amp hours it should give me...

building a strob cicuit into a light. How would I?

I have an idea that it might be nice to have a strob feature on a little light. I was thinking abbout biulding it in to a mag solitair with a 8mm LED mod It seems to me you'd save power by having a strobe and you could have something which could be "useful" on the street. Do you guys think it...

using rechargable CR123 to run a 12V system

Right since I'm a mountain biker I've been thinking of making a very bright headlight for it. My brother built up a nice system using bulbs with built in reflectors that run at 12V and runs on a battery which works out at about 12Nimh AA cells. I was wondering if the rechargable CR123 would work...

I have as feeling not knowing just what lumens are is on a simlilar scale to not knowing the Lords pray during a witch hunt. Streamlight task

Right first post here so I'd best introduce myself. I'm Andy on british blades which at least a few of the people on here visit. I will blame Cones and and ODS for my joining this place. I'm into outdoors stuff which include mountain biking and camping (bushcraft style if possible). I'm a...
