My [dimmable] 5 watt from Wayne - *Pics Added*

Re: My [dimmable] 5 watt from Wayne is completed! [ QUOTE ] StarPhox said: I suppose dimming it wouldn't really conserve power since you're just increasing the resistance... [/ QUOTE ] Well, actually - it WOULD conserve power - as the greater the series resistance in a load, the less power...

    Resist me not?

As well, voltage and the internal resistance of the batteries supplying the led is important as well. You will not fry a white Nichia LED if you supply it with 2 cr3023 cells in series (6v), but you will if you supply it with 2xcr123 (6v). Abe.

    Busted my KL1...

Been there, done that... Actually there is more to it than just changing the LS. 1. The drive voltage will need to be changed. 2. The drive current will need to be changed. If you just swap the LS for a 5W, then you will get the same , or even less light than from the 1W. Those doing the...

F***ed up my KL1 last night...

I think I was a bit hasty - but let this be a warning to the uninitiated modder. I decided to try amd mod my spare KL1 with an RB 1W LS. So I put the KL1 into a leather-lined vice (Lens end down), and used a socket spanner which fitted the hex knurle to try and remove the front (smooth) ring...

    5W Blasters Arrinving

Re: 5W Blasters Coming Soon [ QUOTE ] soloco said: I vote for a sleeve that allows for 2 rows of 3 123 batteries to be inserted. This would achieve 9V and double the runtime of just 3 in series. Just my 2 cents, but something I would prefer. [/ QUOTE ] I would go for this too if you were...

    1. I test mine on a current/voltage regulated mains power supply. 2. Don't forget to heat sink it - it will fry & die... Abe.

Re: 5W Blasters Coming Soon [ QUOTE ] ufokillerz said: one problem i see with the 3x123 spacer is that the winding on the spring appears too wide and that it might miss the 123 battery from time to time? [/ QUOTE ] Not a prob - on my modded 2c maglight - (to use 3x123) I have had no...

*updated* - M@gL1ght shootout - mods, beamshots, etc.!

I modded my 2C Maglight to run with 3x123 with adaptors (9v) and used a 7.2v bulb - man it is incredibly bright now. 3x123 is exactly the same length as 2xC cells. It is even brighter than my 6C maglight (also 9v). The 2C on 9v is now a perfect candidate for a 5W LS. It would be a direct...

My Latest Mod - A car high-beam headlight

Nice - I would do the NiMh if I could afford it. And the Big-Beam was my inspiration as well... One idea would be to add a single D size Nimh in series - giving 13.2V total - and they would have almost the same capacity 6.5Ah opposed to say 7Ah - so they would discharge at the same rate. Abe.
