    New Princeton Tec Vizz

Bought a Vizz earlier today (OK, now it's yesterday) from REI and will be returning it. Looked good on paper. Although I was put off by the obviously misleading runtime claims; and yes, PT seems to be getting worse about that. There was an honest explanation with the EOS and some other earlier...

    Fenix LD12 G2 dissapointment/confusion

I've had my Fenix LD-12 XP-G since December 2012. (No rings that I'm able to perceive.) More to the point... When I first got it, seemed that I could only get two functional modes. Behaved much as NNR described. Usually three initially (no boost going to fourth click), then falling back to two...

Best and worst lights of 2007

Re: * Best and worst lights of 2007 Best purchases of '07: o Most used EDC: Fenix P2d-Rebel Premium 100 Improved color than Cree, but more importantly, better beam shape with larger center and good blend to spill, good user interface, great size. Only needs lower settings...not more...

Surefire L1 Cree + beamshaper question

Well, mine is about one year old, has been used a lot on the older L1, and the newer L1-CE, plus a few times on the HDS EDC which is slightly fatter, and it is still tight! Don't know why the difference. Maybe yours is older and they improved the rubber compound?

    Brightness Yes, however spectrum now..

Thank you 65535, I was going to start a thread on this, and don't want to hijack this one, but...my question is so closely related... I have become more concerned with color rendition. Maybe it is all the fall leaves on the ground, maybe the way my wife's incan cuts through mist better than my...

    SF L2 A GREAT MOD?

Spence, if you do get a mod job, please tell us all how it worked out - and what it ends up costing. I like the L2 a lot, think it has a fine beam, am not bothered by the almost undetectable center shadow in the real world, but the runtime could use some serious improvement. - Bill

    EDC strategy

No. Actually, I can't recall ever wanting a battery of any sort and having to go out and buy one, right away. Which does seem strange. I thought I might need to on occasion, and viewed that as an advantage for AA-powered lights, but it hasn't happened yet. I buy batteries in bulk and squirrel...

Surefire L1 Cree + beamshaper question

Yes, the SF 04 beamshaper fits perfectly, snug enough to stay on but not a pain to remove. It gives a very even flood and is absolutely worth having with the new Cree L1, especially if you want to use it as a do-everything light. I wish they'd sell some kind of little snug case for it...

    Neat Lanyard Solution for Novatac

For either Novatac or HDS EDC, try what I use. Obtain a stout neoprene o-ring of a size that will fit tightly around the "waist" portion of the light *after being passed around twice*. In other words, about twice the circumference. Thread it through a small o-ring, give it at twist and then roll...

What is the use for this Fenix red filter ?

A red light is exceptionally useful in my view, but for special purposes only. After your eyes are fully dark-adapted, it preserves night vision and lets you see the surroundings while illuminating the area of most interest - in contrast to a bright white light which can leave you mostly blind...

    CMG Infinity replacement?

Second recommendation for Peak Kilimanjaro as closest option to original CMG IU (although I do understand that you want something akin to the non-IU, with longer runtime). I have had three of the Chinese-made Gerber "CMG-IU" models with the different design and they *all* malfunctioned, were...

Ever Since I Put My Arc AAA-P On My Keychain...

+1. Got mine back from Arc two days ago with a brand new head and improved LED. The old head had developed a repeated shutoff problem that was temporarily cured by short visits to the freezer, and thus some freak thermal issue I guess. Quick turnaround and no hassles. A good company. For...

Getting off the LED bandwagon - am I jumping alone?

Thanks CaveDave for the pics! Yes, and I appreciate the difficulty while getting bitten by mosquitoes. (I also like your back porch view.) Someone alluded to the older, slightly acrimonious thread about incands vs LEDs and color resolution. I restrained myself from saying this at that time, but...

Surefire Cree L1 owners with issues

Thanks Art - Info about Cree running cooler etc is very interesting. Doubtless a reflection of the efficiency. I am one of those who doesn't mind the longer tail. Yes, dangling from the lanyard the air could have cooled it, but that night air was around 82F also. I left it on after I got home...

    Your LED flashlight dream . . .

OK, since you asked, I've given this some thought for quite a while and my response is going to be kind of "different" - OK guys, don't laugh too hard... Battery: 1xcr123, capable of accepting rechargeable Li-ion. Form: Somewhat like an Inova 24/7, with differences. Central high-output LED...

Surefire Cree L1 owners with issues

More the fool I. Well, I spoke a bit too soon. Just ran another test of sufficient duration with a good battery and may have partially answered my own question - sorry about that! Room T = 83F, air still. Battery: Surefire, slightly used, initial voltage 3.22V Alcohol thermometer with head...

Surefire Cree L1 owners with issues

Thanks for the replies, and I know and agree with what you both said about batteries. However, and I mean this in the nicest way, I'm not sure the point of the post was understood. It boils down to this: (a) If the light is regulated, and the initial brightness, even with an inferior battery...

    Surefire L1 cree question.

I agree with Kilovolt, although you may want to hear from others more knowledgeable than I. From what I've read, probably no buck-down provision with these SF lights and at higher voltages you risk turning a nice instrument into a paperweight very quickly. Well, you could replace the head, but...

Cheap Candle Attachment for AA Lights

Hi bspofford - There are lots of similar options - I'm just weird enough to worry about protecting even glass lenses on flashlights and get very obsessive with plastic ones - so I have looked for things to slide over them, as you have. For my HDS EDC and for Surefire flashlights, the push-on...

Surefire Cree L1 owners with issues

This may belong on this thread, or possibly not. Feel free to holler if not... I had previously tested my Cree L1 for 5 minute periods with a SF cell. Tonight I tested it for 55 minutes on high continuously while running with the dogs. The results weren't quite what I expected, considering this...
