What type of metal do you like for a flashlight?

Well, I chose aluminum bronze because I wanted something stronger than aluminum. Most flashlights are made with 6061 and then anodized to protect the finish; however the anodizing does little to nothing to protect the light from drops. When I first started working with the aluminum bronze, I...

Best all around 2 cell light?

Yeah, the Aleph is a good way to go. The are easy to maintain and flexible. Just decide what you want it to do and order it that way. Besides, if you ever have problems with it, we're always here. The nice thing about the Alephs is that you can order a general purpose Aleph II, then when you...

    Rethinking LED vs Incan

Yeah, I have a Ruger SP101 that was ported and with loads with something like Winchester 296, it'll like up the sky. I don't know what it is that Corbon does with powders, or what it is that they use, but the muzzle flash is noticeably less than say the Remington +P. Back to the point...

    Rethinking LED vs Incan

Just a tidbit, but I use Corbon loads for self defense. All other things aside, they do engineer loads with the least amount of muzzle flash that I've seen.

    Rethinking LED vs Incan

vic303, If you have to opportunity to, you should check out a light that is equipped with an X1 color binned LED. I really like these. Although I have seen the occassional greenie, they usually come it at white with maybe a slight tint of yellow. This bin works very well outdoors.

    Cyclops is a deal at Sam's !!!

Those lights at Sam's are pretty nice. Fairly well built and serve as good mod hosts. I couldn't believe the price when I saw them. I grabbed all that they had. Something thing like 10 packages of two. I sold the all to LEOs to be used as backup lights. They're still asking for more...

My E1e tailcap died on me...

Considering that you just got the light, I'm going to assume that you have one of the "newer" clickie switches. I haven't seen any of the new ones bind up, but the old ones were notorious for being hard to "click" and they did bind up sometimes. What I did was to disassemble the switch and put...

    What drives your flashaholism?

I like making and modifying lights. If I didn't get to make them, I think that the fun would have worn off for me.

What 3 SF lights would you like to own?

I think I'd go for an A2, an M4, and an M6. I'm not super wild about the Surefire LED lights as I haven't met one yet that didn't need modding.

    Rethinking LED vs Incan

This whole subject is kind of related to another subject that's been discussed at length on CPF. That is the tint of luxeons. I am an avid shooter and, when time allows, I like to practice as much as I can. I have, to date, been involved in two altercations that resulted in gun fire being...

How to remove Surefire pocket clip?

Removing the clip (and leaving it off) may (and probably will) compromise the water tightness of the light.

    Single Cell w/Reserve Question

The KL1s put out pretty much the same amount of light whether you run it on one or two cells. The five lumen difference going from one to two cells is negligible and probably due to the way that the converter handles bucking and boosting. As for that four hours of runtime on a single 123, I...

isolated island with no stuff for moDs...aww....only 18

If you can get mail, you can order everything that you need to mod flashlights on line. A paypal account will make this possible. Go to www.paypal.com and sign up. You'll need a banking account and a credit card. Well, that's what I used anyway. You may not even need that. With paypal, you...

    A2 doesn't work!!!!

The LA could be bad too. Try removing the tailcap and closing the electrical path with a screw driver or something. If it lights up, it's the switch. If it doesn't, it's the LA. I think.

Need help about how to LEDify my 2D Maglite as cheap as possible.

I understand that you want to get more runtime and possibly brighter light, but what are you looking for? Did you want to really mod the light or did you want a drop in solution. If you have access to a soldering iron, some common tools, and wire, you could just modify the mag to to...

how many lumens do I really need?

I have to disagree with yellow. Although throw is a common subject here, most of the custom lights that you will see on CPF are geared toward everyday practical use. For example, the Aleph series of lights. Of the basic three models available, the Aleph II (the smallest with the least amount...

how many lumens do I really need?

Hello, Let me start by saying that I am neither in the military, nor am I a law enforcement officer; but a few of my lights have seen service in Iraq and quite a few of them are in the hands of law enforcement officers. Based on this, I can make a few comments based on what I've been told...

OMG, I put a tiny chip into my KL4..

I don't know what they would charge to repair it (or how long it would take), but I'd bet that they would send you a replacement lens for nothing. They you could repair it yourself. The way I do it is to use heat to loosen the bezel. It's best to be wearing nitril gloves when you do this...

OMG, I put a tiny chip into my KL4..

I wouldn't worry about the ding. It's gonna happen. The chip however, may be a cause of a bit of concern. It is likely that the lens chipped, but the chip is still wedged between the bezel ring and the head. Just keep and eye out for it. If it starts floating around in there, it could...
