iCharger: impressions & comparisons to cheaper hobby chargers.

Ok, I know this post was from a gazillions years ago, but wanted to add my $0.02 in case someone does a search and finds this. I use the cheapest Turnigy Reaktor charger, the 250W 10A. It also lets you change time, temp, and capacity cut off settings during charging. I literally just tried it...

    Multi-level driver for SSC P7 under $8 ?

A MCU is a microcontroller, basically a system on a chip. You can write software on your Linux, Unix, or Windows machine and download it into the MCU. My current favorite is the Texas Instruments MSP430. For only $20, you can get a development system made up of a usb programmer and a small...

    When to pitch NiMH's?

Of course, by "toss them" everyone means toss them into the battery recycling bin at Circuit City, Home Depot, Beast Buy, etc ;)

    Laptop Battery help

Do fleabay sellers offer reasonably recent li-on batteries? A few magazines say that lithium ion has a shelf life of 3 to 4 years, even if sitting unused.

    Laptop Battery help

Have you tried recalibrating? There should be a battery calibration page somewhere. I've used all manner of Compaq/HP for the last several years, and they all have it. If you've reinstalled the operating system, then you need to download the calibrator from hp.com. It either the "power...

    Laptop Battery help

Since CPFers are pretty familiar with lithium ion, would it be reasonable do-it-yourself job? The protection board is still in the laptop battery housing, just talking cell replacement here. The service places charge $75 to $100 to replace the cells. Probably mostly for labor charges.

    radioshack deoxit/progold pens on sale

I'm a newbie at all this, but I thought my pens were duds. They seemed like dry sharpie markers. It turns out that you have to press down on the tip before the fluid flows. Just in case another noob is about to try the pens ;) Don't toss them, they probably are not dry

    radioshack deoxit/progold pens on sale

I picked up a set of deoxit and progold a few weeks ago, but at half price. It seems like some of you are able to get a better deal ;) There was only one or two left, probably none now in the store.

Do Alkaline batteries get an unfairly bad rap nowadays?

Which smart chargers did you end with? I use the regular nimh chargers that came with my eveready nimhs. I recall that my chargers are timed charges, definitely not smart.

    Direct drive 5mm ?

Lumenhound- I'm bringing a Garrity multilevel headlamp that has Nichias in it, two LuxIII and one LuxV light. Greenled- The film canister light is a good lead, thanks. Now I gotta bum some film canister at the local film place, before they become a thing of the past ;)

    Direct drive 5mm ?

I read some threads about a 5mm mod for a 2xAA minimag using an "mjled". It looks like a regular white 5mm led, with no drop resistor. Just the 5mm jammed into the minimag's wheat incandescent bulb socket. So is it safe then to DD 5mm LEDs? I'm preparing for some night hikes, and will either...

Hand Powered AA / AAA battery charger ?

Solar doesn't take that long to charge. The newest innovation for hikers and campers is a flexible rollup solar panel. The problem is cost, it is like $300. But it does work and works well.

Cheap price alert: Walgreens alkalines 2/$3.99

All these packs are 2/$3.99? Unusual sale, why would anyone choose 2 pack 9v when they could get 6 pack at the same price?

Best replacement battery for Magcharger ?

Were they directly connected in series and parallel? If so, there is a problem of the weaker cells getting reverse charged by the stronger cells.

    Buck with current regulation needed

Funny, when you think about it. Back in the day when ICs first came out, Radio Shack had adapter boards for DIP package ICs. DIP spacing is downright huge compared to today's SMT. Even so, back then it was a big shift from discrete electronics to DIP. What's after SMT, optical???

    INSIDE EBAY ARC AAA CLONE

The ebay listing says "1 watt LED". From the measurements here, it is not even 1/4 watt. Am I missing something here, or is this typical Ebay description fluff?

    LM27xx, LM50xx switching/PWM DC-DC converters

Anyone try out these driver chips? They come in boost or buck (e.g. LM2736). The Zetex chip has been analyzed and length on CPF. The main difference, it seems, is these chips have the FET onboard. Doesn't sound like much of a savings, but it is still one less component, 3 less solder joints...
