    Which light for night hikes...

Having two of the same model might be good too. On a really unlucky day, you can cobble together parts from the two to get a working light.

    Good clones?

This is very true. They seem to be inherently unreliable, too many points of failure.

    Tiablo (M)A1 - Luxeon Rebel 100 AAA

Kai's search uses google, but no hits for Tiablo. Maybe google hasn't crawled Kai's site yet. Anyway, here is a link to the light on Kai's site http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=3542

Kai's new approach to new lights

Kai's page says it does not use PWM so it is flicker free. I don't see the 350/700/1050 boards being sold separately on Kai's site. Where did you see that, I'd like to buy some of those boards.

    Best Alkaline 1AA LED

Re: Best Alkaline 1AA LED to toss in glove box? Dunno, but the automobile environment is harsh. Wide temperature extremes, humidity, etc.

    Cree/Seoul drop-ins for MiniMag

I noticed the same thing. My 1 watt terralux minimag was barely adequate, as you say the lava tubes eat photons. The clone 3 watts fared a little better. I had an incandescent light as a spare- it was woefully lacking. Good enough to not trip on stuff if everything else croaked, but bad for...

Blue LED night lights at Dollar Tree

How are the 4 diodes arranged? Were they connected in a rectangle? This makes it a bridge rectifier.

    Wall wort powered LED lamps?

What is Habitat installing in those houses that they don't need the wall warts?

    What? A Flat 1W LED?

I have also seen it in clone luxeon lights, but only the 1-watt variety. The 3-watt clones I have around here use an emitter.

CREE XR-E heatsinked on regular copper pc board?

Has anyone tried to heatsink a XR-E on plain old copper printed circuit board? That stuff is a lot easier to find and solder to. It seems that Cree has gotten the heat down, maybe heavy aluminum heatsinking or thick copper plate isn't needed... ?

    Lowes-3aa sale

Sale ended yesterday :( I ordered 4 last week, when nearest store had 54 of them. Within a day, they were out. I had wanted to increase the order to make it worth the drive, but no go. Several stores in my region ran out, when they had stock days earlier. Today, one has stock again but the...

Radio Shack keychain lights still on clearance

Maybe they're covered in silicone, the stuff that most ipod skins are made of. It's also in many sunglasses / eyeglasses nose pads.

    Sam's Club Elements

Re: Re-evaluation (Sam's Element 3AAA) Someone needs to compare the Dorcy board to the Element board. It is often a missing connection, or even a special "be dumb" jumper. Back in the dinosaur days, we knew that the calculator companies did not actually make different chips for different...

    Diamond L.E.D light - WOW!!!!!!!!!!

I was always curious about the red/orange luxeon, mainly because of the higher output. How would you characterize the color? Is there something you can compare it to, like is it the color of the turn signals we see as daylight running lamps on GM cars and some Lexus-es? How about a...

    Best bang-for-the-buck 3W 2AA LED?

I've used a pair of MXDL v2 for that purpose. The v2 basically means a bit brighter, but annoying tailcap cheesy switch. The tailcap cheesy switch is a terrible thing when putting them in backpacks, back pockets, what have you. But when clamped into a mtn bike, the cheesy switch is the best...

    Modding Nuwai 0.5W with a Lux1?

Does that mean that the Lux is not heatsinkked? Maybe the wire leads are good enough for heat sinking, it electrically and heatwise connects to the junction of the led.
