    First Double Luxeon In Slovakia?

One of my double Luxeon modified Radio Shack 3C mods just got into the hands of a relative in Bratislava. I think he now probably has the only (or one of the very few) Luxeon flashlight in the country. He is just delighted and thinks it is the most incredible flashlight he has ever seen and is...

Aluminum heat sink in a 1-1/2" sink drain

Hmmn. Must be a correlation between a tendency to buy aluminum solder "just in case" and being fascinated by flashlights. People just roll their eyes when I say there is an entire forum for this. Any way, I would expect a well soldered joint to carry heat pretty well. How it would compare to a...

Aluminum heat sink in a 1-1/2" sink drain

Anyone ever try the aluminum soldering pasted from http://www.solder-it.com/solderpaste.asp ? Years ago I had a roll of solder and flux specifically for soldering aluminum but never had a chance to try it out. Now I can't find it.

The Death Star is now operational !!!

I can see it now.... beam shots with a grouping of bullet holes in the center.

Help with Brinkmann 3AA direct drive.

Direct drive with 3AA's is in my book the way to go. With good heatsinking, it is fine and super bright. If you want long life, a few Nichia's would be fine, but a Luxeon just begs to be a light blaster - not an endurance candle.

Help with Brinkmann 3AA direct drive.

Direct drive fresh 3AA's should push about an amp through the Luxeon initially. Were all your runs done inside the flashlight barrel? If so, I'd wonder about how good the contact is between the barrel and the negative feed for the Luxeon. I found that considerable forward physical pressure from...

Direct Drive 3AA vs ZLT 2AA

Ron, what circuit are you using to get 1 amp? Do you manage it with two cells or need more for the circuit. I'd love to have a regulated 1 amp, but the ZLT doesn't seem to accomodate that much power.

    TripleStar, Luxeon Star Bike Light!

I don't think I agree. In series they should all pull the same as the total current (1 amp) since current is the electron flow rate. The same number of electrons pass through each Luxeon in series connection. The voltage drop across them, however, would be 1/3 of the 12 volt total so the power...

    TripleStar, Luxeon Star Bike Light!

Series right? Wouldn't each Luxeon be pulling 1 amp rather than 1/3 of the current?

Direct Drive 3AA vs ZLT 2AA

I love the compactness of my ZLT boosted 2AA Brinkmann (500 ma) but after testing both outside at night, I find I prefer the insanely bright direct drive mod. That extra bit of light changes the effect from okay to something more extraordinary. I guess, for me Luxeons are for getting really...

    My First ZLT+ Brinkmann Legend

Thanks. It's working great so far. Run time was 2 1/2 on a not quite new pair of alkalines.

    My First ZLT+ Brinkmann Legend

Here is my first attempt at a ZLT+ boosted 2AA Brinkman Legend to Luxeon mod. Thanks to Duggg and Mercator for the online info for the ZLT+. I changed Mercator's PC board layout so all the "etches" could be done as three straight cuts with an Xacto knife. This was easy, used no chemicals, and...

Radio Shack 3C Aluminum Flashlight on Clearance $2.97!

Thanks, Guys. I'm sorry but I wasn't planning on getting into production of multiple units. I'll leave that to Wayne. Building isn't that tough. The hardest part was cutting the circular heatsink. That took some work with a jigsaw and file. Mounted the trimmed down Luxeon's with conductive...

Radio Shack 3C Aluminum Flashlight on Clearance $2.97!

I discovered that the end cap threading is identical to the the thread at the front of the battery barrel. So, naturally I did the little experiment of screwing on another battery barrel onto the end of my 3C 2 luxeon mod and adding more batteries and a metal. I went up to a 5C direct drive with...

Luxeon Saves Patient Discomfort and Risk in the OR

I think you need more light. The Luxeon is quite amazing in output. Not until you see one in action do you really understand what a leap it is in illuminance.

Radio Shack 3C Aluminum Flashlight on Clearance $2.97!

Okay. Here they are. My first mods and a beam shot with all three lights at the same distance from projection screen. As usual, the camera seems to emphasize the coloration more than the eye sees.

Luxeon Saves Patient Discomfort and Risk in the OR

Measured the current draw with fresh alkalines. It starts at 1100 ma but very quickly drops down to 1000 ma. After a few days of intermittent, a set of cells is pushing 850 ma. I'd estimate that was with about 15 minutes of usage. After five minutes of run time, I took it apart and felt the...

Drop in Luxeon mod to MiniMag *moved to Buy/Sell/Trade forum*

Sounds enticing. How close to the Lambda Illuminator's output level would it achieve?

Luxeon Saves Patient Discomfort and Risk in the OR

I used a chassis hole nibble tool. Easy control, but takes about fifteen minutes to nibble away all the excess heat sink.

Radio Shack 3C Aluminum Flashlight on Clearance $2.97!

I did it. One of them has now been converted into a dual Luxeon star direct drive 3C flashlight. Used a nice thick circle cut from the bottom of an old fry pan as the heat sink plate. It packs a lot more wallop than my single luxeon 3 AA direct drive mod. Wow! The regular incandescant...
