    Guess where this come from...

    Interesting use of heatshrink tubing.

    5W LS, 6AA, reflector, not that bright..*Updated*

Re: 5 watt LS, 6AA, reflector, still not that brig The AA batteries you are using could have a high internal resistence. You're drawing enough current so that the internal resistence of the batteries is a factor. And the more cells you have in series, the higher the resistence.

2AA MiniMag with Flashlight Tuner and BB400?

It completes the circuit, but it limits the current in LED mode. So much so that the normal incandecent buld will not light, but more then enough current for the LED. Not sure how a BB would react ot that.

    A Better Mag Reflector

Hmm. that gets me thinking. Think it would be possible to give the mag reflector a better coating so it would, reflect better?

    Stuck Battery

you try smacking it? What is the body of the light made of? A nice soft faced mallet might do the trick. Hold the light battery opening down. Then smack the opening upwards with a mallet. Simple physics. The momentum of the batteries will want to counter act the movement of the flashlight...

Help me find a good home for a 5W

5W power pucks are kinda large if I remember correctly, 1.5 inches in diameter. You're gonna need a big flashlight. Something like a 6V lantern type flashlight maybe?

    brightest possible mod?

Hell, why don't you just lug around a car battery and a freaking headlight. You can give it a handle and everything. You can jump it right to your cars 12V and charge it while you drive!

    brightest possible mod?

You could probably do 6 NiMH AA cells in a Mag 2D with either the TL LA or 5 AA's with the Streamlight Bulb if you wanted something shorter.

    brightest possible mod?

Everyone seems to be waiting for the elusive 3-TO-D battery converters to emerge from Elektro Lumens. With those you'd be able to run 3 AA NiMH cells in series in a D package, making it very easy to boost the voltage on D cell flashlights... I know I want some

Patents - High Power LED heatsinking

IMHO, being a holder a degree in mechanical engineering, they are trying to patent something blatently obvious from a thermal design perspective -- Oh, it's in a tube? Well, give it a round heatsink! I don't personally see how having a LED attached to it makes it any different. Maybe that's...

    Resist me not?

Smaller LEDs like Nichia's cannot take the current of a direct drive by themselves. They have a low resistence and will easily pull enough current by themselves to self distruct. You need a resistor in series to limit the current in the circuit.

Patents - High Power LED heatsinking

I can see the value in patenting a novel heatsink design. But this person is trying to pattent a round circle of metal. That is just plain stupid. I'll use as many round circles of metal as I damn well please.

Oh SH*T (A stupid McLux TK question)

A lithium ion rechargable battery maybe? I was looking at those today and was ondering if they would make a good drop in replacement for a 123.

Lambertian or Side Emitting with mag D reflector?

So they both seem to work well when focused on a spot, but what about when focused for a flood?

Lambertian or Side Emitting with mag D reflector?

For anyone that has experience with using the 5W Luxeons with the mag reflectors (specifically the D size reflectors), I'm curious as to weather they are better behaved with the Side Emmiters or the Lambertian emmiters?

    MAG 2D mod

Illuminated: Thanks. I had been searching but I must not have used the right keywords. Mr. Bulk: Thanks. Actually I was searching late last night reading old threads trying to catch up to you guys and stumbled across it. But honestly, I was all happy and set to do all this until I saw the...

This guy modified his Sanyo 4900 & 5300 Cell LEDs!

You can buy raplacement circuit boards for Nokia phones with different color LEDs on them. I have also seen the LEDs themselves for sale for those with a small soldering iron and nerves of steel. The ones on the nokia phones are very tiny.

    custom bicycle

Well, I am a mechanical engineer. Drilling a small hole in the handlebar will create a high stress concentration around the perifery of the hole. Also, the closer to the center support you get the higher your stresses are. Introducting the hole will only increase the stresses. The handlebar...
