    I'm no scientist =) I turned it off, then back on, and hit the B button to bring it back to full power. It will step down quicker subsequent times, so clearly this thing isn't on some sort of fixed timer - it's temperature-driven.

    It should be evident if you look close, in ALL the beam pics that the U2 wins. The pictures just don't show runtime or heat.

    I like the output from the surefire here better, BUT the huntlight does not get nearly as hot, and the huntlight should get better runtime, although I did not test that. My u2 is also a very poor u2 specimine... noticeably dimmer and worse beam than others i've seen in person. So a "winner"...

    It's true, sorta. The light automatically dims, but you can always just boost it back up to full power. It's "by design" although the design sucks. All in all, I get about 90 minutes at the brightest setting on a charge.
