    Is EMS shippping reliable?

I sent a very expensive watch to New York City via EMS and it got there fine. I didn't insure it because they have restrictions on certain things like jewellery (you can only send up to a certain value). I had a pretty expensive custom knife come to via from Poland via EMS, also fine.

    "Quality of Darkness"

Don't talk to me about light pollution. We have a 'small' crime problem in this country so everyone attaches lights to every damn surface of their houses they can find. Each house is like a prison compound, with darkness activated lights, motion activated lights and just plain all-night-long...

    Shipping overseas

Re: shipping over seas Priority International Flat Rate envelope is definitely the cheapest option for small items. However, there is no tracking available, so use with caution if item is expensive!

    More people missing in Oregon

The guy in the snow cave didn't make it... they're still after his two friends but it doesn't look great. Another storm is brewing so they only have a small window to find them, and they say its like looking for a needle in a haystack. They have to start using long poles to probe the snow as...

    More people missing in Oregon

Well, its been a week since they went off the radar so if they don't have shelter they're in bad trouble in that weather. And it appears the weather is going to be around for a while longer. Doesn't look so good for those dudes...

    More people missing in Oregon

Apparently they have to rescue quite a few people off this peak every year, so it ain't that uncommon. But, and its a big old BUT, these dudes went up at the worst possible time of year in terms of weather, AND they went with minimal equipment. Which is pushing your luck just a wee bit. Not that...

    More people missing in Oregon

SAR are currently prevented by the weather from going higher than 7,000 feet. The one guy is holed up in a cave near the summit at around 10,000 feet and the other two who left to get help are Lord knows where. They are concentrating the search for the two dudes who are further down the mountain...

    More people missing in Oregon

Latest report indicates more bad weather expected for the next 48 hours. If they have found decent shelter they could sit it out. Just depends if they have the equipment to maintain their core body temp. A Jetboil stove would be worth its weight in gold to those fellows, sure hope they...

    More people missing in Oregon

Just saw on CNN that three climbers have gone missing in Oregon. They were attempting to scale a peak called Mt Hood and got into some trouble. Apparently they have 'minimal equipment' and, although experienced, are not familiar with that particular climb. The route they were attempting is...

A sad but important lesson this week

Always a fascinating subject. I read up as much as I can on it, but every situation is different. It is very tricky to plan for every eventuality. But if you're going where it's cold, take extra warm clothing/blankets. And if you're going where its hot, take extra water. You can survive a...
