In need of a BRIGHT Boat Spot Light.

The light has done well with Lithium AA cells in my experience, even though Streamlight won't certify them. It has also resisted water extremely well, though I have not tried to dive with it.

In need of a BRIGHT Boat Spot Light.

Take a look at the Streamlight Survivor LED. It is a yellow or orange plastic, tough as nails right angle light with a deep reflector for an intense hot spot. Though it uses a Luxeon LED, it has a lot of throw. Its waterproof, regulated, and runs on 4 AA cells. If you use Lithium AA cells, it...

Collision with Freighter averted with L1D

Well, that may be a bit of hyperbole. Anyway, last month I was crew on a boat racing from St. Petersburg, FL to Isla de Mujeres, Mexico. I was brought on as the sail trim expert, but little did they know the collection of lights that would accompany me. One of the crew, who goes by "Stiffler"...

Any interest in 3x17670 holders for the surefire M6?

I don't think the Lumens Factory HO-M6R, which I am driving with the 3x17670 holder, is brighter than the MN21 on CR123x6, but I've never tried to make the comparison. I think others have and there are some graphs somewhere out there that show it. And I think the MN21 would instaflash on the...

Any interest in 3x17670 holders for the surefire M6?

3x17670 drives the Lumens Factory HO-M6 bulb much better than putting six RCR123 cells in the M6 battery holder - the light is brighter and whiter. Part of the reason is the variability of the AW RCR123 cells I have received. Although the four AW 1600 mAh 17670 cells I tested all came in right...

Re: Any interest in 3x16760 holders for the surefire M6? I would be in for one.

Ever met a girl who was impressed with your light?

Plenty of women have been impressed with my U2. Well, until I pull it out of my pocket, then they seem a little disappointed........

Flashlight barred from courthouse as weapon

Went to the county courthouse yesterday for copies of legal papers, and put my keys and HDS EDC into the little tray before going through the metal detector. Lo and behold, the security gal picks up the flashlight, turns it on, and says flashlights are no longer permitted because of their...

Would you buy an Mini HDS CR2 Version?

I doubt there would be an attempt to make a CR2 version 120 lumens. More like 60 lumens on high if it actually came to be. Even so, I imagine 120 lumens out the front is achievable with a 1.2 amp draw from the lithium cell, and a CR2 might be able to hold that for 15 minutes or so.

Would you buy an Mini HDS CR2 Version?

CPFers are a funny lot. A CR2 has about half the capacity of a CR123. With the Cree and SSC LEDs, we can have about the same amount of light as we did last year this time with Luxeons, but at half the current. That means that today's CR2 light can equal the performance of last year's CR123 light...

    U2 or new CREE?...

TenPin et al., You can't judge all U2s and all L2D lights on the basis of single samples of each. In particular, the brightness of the average LuxV emitter has risen quite a bit since the unveiling of the U2, and I think it has been a consensus on CPF that Quickbeam got a real underperformer...

    U2 or new CREE?...

A U2 will still do its job as well now as it did when it first came out almost 3 years ago. I have two and they still get regular use, though efficiency-wise my Seoul or Cree equipped lights win that race. It really depends on your current needs, and whether those needs will allow you to...

    IYHO, Why?

I think the focusability of the Mag-Lite is a red herring. The light distribution when out of focus is so ugly that I never used it that way. How many really do? If you need the Mag form factor, then you can make it a lot better with one of the many incandescent or LED mods people whip up on...

    What's your car flashlight?

I got lucky on that point. My car was entered (forgot to lock it in my driveway) the night after Christmas. The thief took a Christmas stocking, Gameboy and my old MP3 player, but left a modded Surefire L1 (whew!). Stupid thief. Actually, I'm glad he took my girlfriend's son's Gameboy (a more...

My Mag85 sucks, am I an idiot????

You also need to be certain that one or more of your cells is not bad. Many of the high capacity NiMh cells are developing very rapid self-discharge, on the order of a week or two to depletion. I could not figure out why my Mag85 was yellow and dim despite all the best quality parts and having...

The Fenix LO-Ti is over 40% heavier than the LOP/LOD

I suppose the vanity benefits of the LOP Ti versus the aluminum version fail to outweigh the functional drawbacks for me. Of course, if your beast of burden is not a keeper then it doesn't much matter. :touche:

The Fenix LO-Ti is over 40% heavier than the LOP/LOD

For me the LOP is a keychain light, and as much as I would love to have a beautiful titanium version, both the high cost and the extra weight on the keychain push me away from it. Its not good for the ignition lock to hang a lot of weight off the car key.
