The ultimate 18650 battery pack - 6,831 cells

It's pretty obvious to anyone, when someone who has close involvement with a technical industry is trying to protect their own interests too.

The ultimate 18650 battery pack - 6,831 cells

Excuses, excuses, and more excuses. Exactly why the government needs to step in and force these energy companies to build the coal gasifcation plants. Thermocouples moot point, they're cheap, and every power plant is going to require maintenance. The main problem with modern democracy is the...

The ultimate 18650 battery pack - 6,831 cells

Solar, wind, and hydro can't produce electricity efficiently? compared to what? Coal power plants and gas turbines? or 4% efficient nuclear reactors? Cost? Hydro and wind are dirt cheap, and solar panels are coming down. There are also thermal-solar plants using concave mirrors focused on a...

High Resolution Clamp Meter for Current Measurement

Most of the inaccuracy will come from the drift in the hall effect sensor seen from temperature change. How well that is compensated for will make the biggest difference. I don't think I need to send it to a calibration lab to check the accuracy, I'll just check it against using a current sense...

High Resolution Clamp Meter for Current Measurement

Indeed they have been around for a while, I have one that has a 400A and a 1000A setting that I use for checking the current on welding machines at work, but it's only good to the closest 100mA, not 1mA like this one. The 3 and 3/4 digit thing was confusing me, as usually that means 3 digits...

High Resolution Clamp Meter for Current Measurement

Well.. I bought it, I guess we'll see how it works. I could have spent $300+ on the EXTech unit, which I will probably end up doing if this one is a dud, but for the price.. I'm too intrigued not to try it out. I looked into the company that makes it, and they're small, but seem decent...

High Resolution Clamp Meter for Current Measurement

I'm well aware of the concerns with Chinese merchandise, I know it's not going to be quality like a fluke meter, but as long as it does what is advertised to do, that's all I care about, it's not going to be used in a harsh working environment. I will obviously double check the accuracy with a...

High Resolution Clamp Meter for Current Measurement

Until a few years ago clamp-on meter resolution only allowed you to measure to the nearest 100mA, which is no good for power LEDs and such, but recently meters have advanced as far as allowing a 0.1mA resolution, negating the need to measure the voltage across current sensing resistors to check...

Li-mn cells reliable in winter temperatures?

Odd, there seems to be conflicting information. Your link says they've chosen A123, but wiki, and most of the other links I saw on a google search says they've chosen LG. With the dates of the articles only being a few days apart. Here's what wiki says: "GM executives report that battery...

Li-mn cells reliable in winter temperatures?

I thought the GM was wasting money developing their own large cell lithium battery? Last I heard anyway.. Someone on TV was criticizing them for doing so, and not choosing something readily available and tested like the Tesla did. Maybe that failed and they are now going to buy the A123...

How do I tell which end of the LED is negative or positive?

If you have a $10 DMM (digital multi meter) it'll most likely have a diode test setting, works great for testing LEDs, and if you connect it the wrong way, no damage done, it just won't light up. Also very useful for lots of other stuff.

driver for Cree R2 at 1000mA

The electrons are actually flowing from the negative side to the positive, but best not to envision it that way, or it can get pretty confusing.

    Cold weather rechargables?

No, I'm not kidding. Lead Acid is the best rechargeable for cold weather. The only type I know of that will work down to -40C (-40F) and frequently do so in vehicles and all other types of equipment in the frozen north. And you my friend are quite rude and inconsiderate. You're one of those...

1200mA HIGH QUALITY Li-Ion charger discussion thread.

Sorry everyone. I've been away for work and didn't have internet access for a while. I'll probably be home in about 4 weeks. Hopefully the springs will have arrived by then. I've been using a charger here at work quite often, has a lot of charges on it now, and it's working flawlessly other...

1200mA HIGH QUALITY Li-Ion charger discussion thread.

Pretty much finished the chargers, I was just testing them tonight, all that's left is to epoxy on the heatsinks and they're done. It's always so much more work than expected! A good 4 hours or so on each one of these bays.. not including R&D. Etching boards, soldering, machining PVC, glueing...

1200mA HIGH QUALITY Li-Ion charger discussion thread.

Ok, I've got some good news, and some bad. First the bad. I've been back into the store twice now to get angry for not having any springs. They keep telling me that they're out east, and they, for some reason, haven't put them on the truck yet. Seems every time I go in, they just tell me "2...

Thanks Dantor, and Lux, I'm sure those spring links will come in handy. Zipplet I noticed your thread, The charger here will go down to 100mA charge, but no lower. Good luck with your project. RocketTomato, there is a safety timer already built into the device. Preconditioning will be...

1200mA HIGH QUALITY Li-Ion charger discussion thread.

I could accept any kind of image as long as it's to scale and I can print it out. To make one board I couldn't really do it for less than $20, to make 4 I could do them for $15. Another update on the springs.. They're taking longer than expected. I checked again at the store and they said...
