It's really getting crowded out by me now.

Re: It\'s really getting crowded out by me now. I live off a strip of road connecting 2 major highways. I can walk to any one of six 24 hour gas stations in 20 minutes from here. I have to drive an hour and a half just to get some darkness, and it's still not that dark. I hate this place.

Michael Jackson not guilty on all counts

I was relieved at the verdict. Maybe he did it, and maybe he didn't. But before you put someone away for 18 years, you need to be absolutely sure they're guilty. That is to protect all of us, not just Jackson.

Cheapest way to insure extra car (maybe vintage)

Re: Cheapest way to insure extra car (maybe vintag The two things that always used to screw me were losing the use of my vehicle, or my computer. Either one would totally criple my life. After my mother became terminally ill (she was living with me), I transfered her car into my name and tried...

Re: Flashaholics possibly in more danger during em [ QUOTE ] zespectre said: I've often thought that during an emergency, like an extended blackout or such, it would be prudent to remain as stealthy as possible about your supplies/resources. I came to this conclusion after watching the...

Anyone own a Kelty Orb 3 (or 2) Tent?

I don't have the Orb, but I have a Kelty Jetstream 2. It's a 3 to 4 season convertible, and it's an excellent tent. Webforce and flyboy both seem to work pretty well, although I haven't used it in extreme conditions (yet).

    Hey Nitro, solve this

Jim, I like how you figured out how to cancel y' and y^2. Very clever! I think I can shed some light on the IC issue. The first order problem you posed only needs one IC, but when you convert it to a linear 2nd order DE, that in general needs two ICs for a unique solution. However, the...

    Mistaken for a terrorist

Very good advice, sotto. After I got searched near an airport, and detained for almost an hour by 4 cops, I stopped using my lights so indiscriminately. It looks suspicious to people because they don't understand flashoholism at all. If they see you using lights like norm described they think...

got my tires rotated and so was My wallet!

[ QUOTE ] Eugene said:...I can get mine rotated for free but its not worth the risk of having the lug nuts over torqued or broken or too loose because the guy doing it doesn't care that day and those things happen all the time. [/ QUOTE ] I had mine rotated once and the guy cross threaded one...

Keychain light saves a friend's life

Re: Keychain light saves a friend\'s life Your keychain light may be your most important light. I mentioned on the Arc forum once that an Arc AAA prevented me from walking off a 6ft. stone wall. Maybe it didn't quite save my life, but I could have easily broken a leg.

    Religion and income

There is support for tithing in the New Testament, not just the Old. See Hebrews chapter 7, for example. Note that most Christians associate the individual named there as Melchizedek with Jesus Christ. Tithing is for supporting the work of preaching the gospel (i.e. to support the ministry)...

It's also possible the tire isn't balanced properly. If that's the case, a little air squishes out each time the tire makes a revolution.

    Gore-Tex or Wool?

I use Smartwool next to my skin, Polartec fleece for more insulation, and I have a Marmot precip shell. I don't use thick wool socks anymore. Fleece socks over Smartwool sock liners work better, and are lighter. A couple things about fleece: There is an enormous difference in quality between...
