    I just took a SF battery to the hardware and purchased a brass washer that fit nicely in the negative end of the battery.

    The washers I picked up from the hardware store were also brass -.040 thick - they work great. I doubt if copper is necessary. I did hone both sides of the washer with a ceramic tool to remove any minor sharp edges or high spots. The correct thickness is likely more important than copper/brass...

    Thanks to all that have posted fixes. I went for the foil first with good results, but liked the washer idea better. Removed foil and added a .040 washer and the light works great with both Duracell and SF.
