So what do you use YOUR pointers for?

We use them for aiming wifi antennas at distances of 4 or more miles. At night of course Just aim for the green spot in the distance! Gets you pretty close... The 24dbi directional antennas are very difficult to aim. Steve

how many mw's does it take to start burning stuff

I've also been able to smoke black tape with a $20 Red 635nM <5mW laser. I used the final collimating lense from a <5mW green leadlight laser. Using the same lense on a 45mW green (refocusing for nearby) is insane don't do it without 532nM eye protection....

Sunlight collecting lens coupled to fiber optic cable (laser)

Odd, I always thought sunlight was at least very collimated... It's multifrequency but insanely collimated! You should be able to at least do some very interesting things with it. It's far better than a 'flashlight' Take a small mirror and reflect the light to a place 100's of feet away...

    Differece between dealers?

Arnold absolutely ROCKS, I've done busines with him and am very happy....

    Heh, how about THIS laser?

I recently got to work on one similar to that! Although my work had nothing to do with the CO2 laser but the Windows 2000 pro computer controlling the laser! I got to cut some 1/4" thick steel and also threw it into manual mode and moved the cutting head with a joystick... It can cut very...

    serious question...

Enigmahack: Could you give a bit more of your story on what happened and your 'blindspots'? Did you like look directly into the IR laser device? for how long? how many times? I don't take ANY chances, but my understanding is that a few feet away the IR seriously spreads out and is not *as*...

    Request: Video of Arnold-pointer.

I'm very new on the laser (green) scene But got my first HeNe about 10 years ago and have been into lasers ever since! I am extremely pleased with the two purchases that I made from Arnold recently. If any other web hosting help is needed I'd be happy to help him out there as well. I fully...

the crystal/ infra red filter came unglued

I'd try RTV silicone if it were mine... I'm going to intentiaonlly break mine apart soon, soI will need an adhesive..... I think solder would work well too as the pieces are brass ;-) But not for the IR filter

    *Updated* Driverboard Schematic *532mn Leadlight*

Re: *Updated* Driverboard Schematic *532mn Leadlig Hey Spec, yer making exellent progress on it & thanks! ALso thanks for taking the time to notice that I said "track" the part# and not find or read the part# My experience with the capictors is that they are VERY necessasy in many circuits...

Thanks!!! I'm still trying to track that blasted part number on the IC no succes yet.

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Re: Leadlight adjustments looking for the real fac Cool! and thanks very much for this post... This is the most I have learned in about 3 weeks of asking around!!! I feel like a goof cause I actually thought the crystals were the two lenses that you mentioned... I've actually had those out...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Re: Leadlight adjustments looking for the real fac Exactly SM. What I have found so far is that either nobody knows really how to do it or they simply do not desire to share this information. I've gotten lots of vague answers like "go to this site that sells crystals" and what you see there...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Re: Leadlight adjustments looking for the real fac The puurpose of my starting this thread is that I am actually interested in learning and experimenting... The simple question has been: Which part in the leadlights makes the difference between one that will crank up to 45+mW at 300mA and one...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Good call though... I can see why you pulled that up after I mentioned protection, or protection behavior... But no I intentionally got a classic non-led leadlight I also own a 45mW leadlight that absolutely ROCKS! 45mW @274mA Thanks. Steve

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Lasermodifier: Thanks for the info and the links. I have been reading those same threads and such for about a month before getting my first leadlight. NOw that I have my laser to experiment with, What I'm really looking for is exactly what part really makes the difference in a crappy leadlight...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Still playing and trying things out... Tried the diode re-alignment and was not able to get it any brighter than it already was.... Was able to vary it a bit by turning... Did one small resistor mod..... Lowered one of the 1K resitors to about 300 ohms am able to adjust it to 350mA now was...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Ah... getting a little X-Y into it.... As I could see the diode leads were DANGEROUSLY close to touching the ring and I'm a little shy as to not touch the leads to the housing... Thanks... didn't really try that too much... however did lots of in/out adjusting distance of led to MCA adjust...

Leadlight adjustments looking for the real facts.

Thanks all very much who have posted lots of cool info on these forums.... I recently obtained several of the classic leadlights to experiment on! I have read everything I could find over the past 4 weeks in terms of learning about these lasers how they work and what people have done to adjust...
