Yes indeed! The Spark throwers come with a frosted lens that can exchanged for the clear lens in about 30 seconds. They cut the output substantially, of course, but do produce a wonderfully smooth flood beam. -

Welcome to CPF! I also have a 502d and it runs fine on eneloops. Not knowing what charger you have been using for your Energizer rechargeable batteries (which are probably NiMH rather than alkaline) I cannot be certain that it will safely charge your eneloops but it probably will. Having said... -

My Spark ST-5 arrived from GoingGear on Friday. Alas, it was DOA: Would not illuminate with any battery source, be it alkaline, 14500 or eneloop. It is now on its way back to GG for replacement. Sigh! -

If an unreliable headlamp with a ringy beam is all you need, one from Coast may suit. However, you can get a MUCH better headlamp for not much more than your $30 target from Black Diamond, Princeton Tec or Petzl. -

Good overall headlamp?
Take a look at the Spark ST-5 (AA) and/or ST-6 (18650). These headlamps come with a diffuser, which would make them ideal for close-up work, but which is easily removable when you need throw. Good hunting!
