    Candle vs flashlight?

Alex, Oooh, let's not go there...before we know it, maybe someone will come out with a new light on BST with good smell. :lolsign: Back to the candle vs flashlight, many household might only equipped with sub-par flashlight which consumes batteries quickly with little below average...

L4 output in a smaller package?

I have tried the same setup as shown on Powernoodle's picture--and found that if I used the RCR2 with protection circuit, it will not work. Probably user with unprotected RCR2 might have better luck(as always, use the unprotected cells with caution). However, the TW4 definitely rock the house...

My first incandescent since a POS Minim@g

Like yourself, I too rarely EDC an incan light and A2 is one of the few that I do carry often. Very versatile and just plain cool to play with/use. Have fun and congrats on the new light!

Poll: How many modders are in our ranks?

I am a dummy in a real aspect of modding, but constantly looking out for the modding opportunity and fun. Some of the lights I have modded including various sized Mags, SF, Aleph, PrincetonTec, LRI, ARC, Peak, streamlight, pelican, and bunch of brandless flashlight that had scarificed...

How old are your most beloved flashlights? Keepsake, memories, etc.

Gotta be my minimag back in the 80s, and it was still a beloved tool of mine( which now is modded with a newbeam opalec) :)

The most unloved / underappreciated light?

I will second that, I had both the Photon III and Photon Freedom, and could have sworn that many people had seen it couple of times that my Freedom activated inside my dress pants. And it is sad to see LRI took out the auto dimmer feature in the new Freedom, for I personally think it is one of...

Has Surefire upgrade the LED's in the A2 yet?

InfidelCastro, I can see where you are coming from, and personally, I'd like a brighter and 'less-bluish' option of leds without trading off too much of the incan runtime--that was the reason for modding my A2 with SMJ(and written a dummy reference guide for it). My idea is if it were...

    Headining to 3rd world country

Many cool and good suggestions already, but just trying to chime in my 2 cents as well: -consider a led lantern/long running light(lightwave) that could say everyone's light in a enclosed area at night -I agree with the AA usage and AA light, but do consider nimh with somekind of...

    May I borrow your L4, A2?

Greenled, Interesting comparison between the two, I personally like the L4 with the 2 stages tailcap better than the L2(does anyone remember is the low of L2 also fully regulated like U2?)...and I tends agree with a99raptors that the L2 is bit too long for my favor. Originally, I got my A2 a...

Which to buy A2 or U2

Personally, A2 is more pocketable and is one of my regular EDC lights. But I had also taken U2 for a few short hikes, and it was truly a versatile light and the multi-level brightness, good regulation and rechargable friendliness is hard to beat. I'd say go for the U2 if you are using it not...

    KROMA Vs A2

Two very different lights, and personally, I favors the reflector over a TIR for my personal use since the sidespill works really well illuminate the surrounding while I could focus on where the hotspot is. But yet, the robustness and the multiple leds is always a plus for the new Kroma. Btw...

    The SF A2

Hi, everyone. Back with the result for the first test, and posted it on my Dummy Reference Guide to SF A2 modding with higher powered leds -- Here is the extract: Today, I did two experiments, one is to find out when the incan fails to regulate, the V of the battery and how many hours of SMJ...

Making Black-Out Kits for the Unenlightened

I have remembered reading it from flashlightreviews that lightwave lights were used for a week long(?) blackout and it was great. I'd tried to run it non-stop for 2 weeks long and could confirm it does have ultra long runtime and probably work best for general lighting in common area in...

    New use for A2 discovered

In that case, I might consider leaving her in her angry state for a bit longer...in second thought, if the light can pass both the angry baby and angry wife test...that light will probably last a century.

PM6 and 30' drop to a hardwood floor *pics of course*

From the reflector, it does kinda look like it is incan(wild guess). And if it is indeed incan, I am quite surprised that it didn't break the filament inside, wonder it is because of the construction or pelican had purposedly design it such way to make it 'unbreakable'....reminded me another...

    The SF A2

Js, That's great info about the LVR, do appreciate it and am sure I will find this thread whenever I am ready to mod the A2 to go rechargable. Bwaites, Excellent, that is the kind of info I was trying to guesstimate/find! :goodjob: I do have a few A2 with different...

    The SF A2

js, Thanks for the reply, though as a EE dummy I don't have exact idea how exactly the LVR trying to regulate the voltage, but I do understand the complexity of how the dynamic load on the battery might not allow a straight answer to my question. By the end of the day, it is true that it...

    Camping flashlight for a friend

I have yet to see it or try it, but how about the new L1T which has prolonged runtime and little less brightness, also with a two-stage?(btw, is it out yet?) Certainly a variable brightness light is great, SF U2 probably does wonder but the cost might be a little high for non-flashaholics...for...

    The SF A2

Js, Thank you for the advise, being a EE dummy, I think I should be able to manage the tailcap part no problem. But the sucky part is I don't have a DC voltage bench supply handy, and is there any way I could work around without it? (off topic, any good suggestion for a DC volt bench supply?)...
