    clean your titanium threads

ummmm...nope. you would think so, but not. the mechanical wear depends on the durability of the alloy in question. I am quickly learning that the metallurgical quality of an alloy often has no relation to its performance in a consumer setting.

    clean your titanium threads

This guy has been on my keychain for only 2 months, but the head has already become harder to twist :green:. I unscrewed it, and discovered the threads caked with dark powder; it kinda looks like graphite, but is surely titanium gunk. I took a dry paper towel and wiped out both sets of threads...

Lights for military, and SAR person's

www.peakledsolutions.com has 2 torches designed just for LEO: Night Patrol and First Responder. www.elektrolumens.com has a similar item: EDC-P7. If you can wait a few months, you can preorde his new 3D cell SSR-90 that puts out 1700 lumens. Email wayne, I know he works closely with many LEO's.

Lithium C Primaries in 2C Mag

I would be worried with a C or a CR123 powered torch as my emergency, vehicle back-up. **I like the AA Lithium primaries from Energizer. They are my choice for temp-abuse taking, long term, reliable storage (this lithium is different from the lithiums you are referring to) **it must be LED...

    Power Failure Wall Light?

I have itching for an excuse to buy: http://www.sylvaniaonlinestore.com/p-63-power-failure-light.aspx In a power failure, the ambient night light stays on for a couple of hours. It gives you light so you can walk over to it without tripping over furniture, then grab it out of the wall as a LED...

    TerraLUX TLE-300M

45 minutes for a 5x1/2D NiCd pack sounds about right. The TLE-300 sucks up 12 watts; at 6 volts out, this yields about 2amps per hour. A 1/2 D NiCd pack packs about 2 AH. If we assume 80% energy conversion efficiency, 0.75 hours (45 minutes) is well within reason.

    ROP Idea

Now that's an idea. I ain't no EE, but if you stick a pot of sufficient amps on a 12v SLA and a voltmeter, then dial down the voltage to, say, 8v, it should be able to power a 3854HI

    ROP Idea

I share your puzzlement. If you Google EV732 or Rayovac 926, you will get dozens of websites where you can buy one. However, there are NO listings for the associated lantern that uses them. Question: what on earth are people using these things for? I am thinking of things like amateur radio or...

    ROP Idea

Hmmm...if I understand your principle correctly, the answer is a flat-out NO. The essence of the ROP is to take a bulb, and gradually increase the applied voltage volt by volt, to dramatically increase the light output, greatly increase the amps sucked up, and greatly decrease bulb life. SLA's...

Need better bulb for an old classic.

Come, come, now: they still make it: http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/9101ind.pdf http://www.batteriesandbutter.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=9101IND&Category_Code=lafl http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KKLU18/?tag=cpf0b6-20 Couse, they no longer have the...

Need better bulb for an old classic.

I saw the LED PAR36: http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/par36/  OK: I admit it; I live under a rock. I have never seen anything like that. First, if the light is not strong: take apart the bulb and batt, and scrape all the contacts clean. Might make the light brighter, but won't improve the icky...

    Flashlight recommendations for camping

You left out one important bit of info: are you backpacking, where size and weight is critical, or are you car camping? I personally do the latter, and here, the sky is the limit. Based on your 'loose' comments, I assume you are also talking about the same thing. You seem to be describing two...

LED conversion for yellow Rayovac/Energizer industrial lights?

The Nite-Ize drop is pretty amazing: quickbeam also stopped the test on this one after 24 hours, pretty loooong batt life. Sadly, I tried to put it in a Rayovac yellow industrial 2D, and it was totally worthless: it looked like a M*g that was totally defocused. However, I am thinking, if it is...

    Need an Explosion Proof light

This is the official list of MSHA approved torches: http://www.msha.gov/techsupp/acc/lists/20flshlt.pdf pretty slim pickins' if you ask me. These are the relevant regs: http://www.msha.gov/techsupp/acc/approvals/esd/flashlights.asp Now, UL approval is different: it has something to do with...

HID Flashlights - competition from LEDs?

Would it change your mind if someone where to come up with an optic for the P7? My 4xK2 Quadlight is a great flood, but also fabulous thrower if you add the small, plastic, conical bits. A similar, small, plastic, reflector thing for the P7 could not be far off. IMHO, a proper optic for the P7...

HID Flashlights - competition from LEDs?

I have EL's Wall-of-Fire. It is advertised as 3600 lumens, but this is theoretical max. More realistically: 700 lumens (C bin min) x 4 p7's x 66% M*g efficiency = 1900 lumens, but this is out the front end, not just bulb lumens. Plus, I can use alkys (at a reduced output) or rechargeables, and...
