Jetbeam RRT-0 R5 confusion (daily mode output)

I and a friend of mine are both considering buying a Jetbeam RRT-0 R5, but we're confused by the specs listed by websites. Some (ex: bugoutgear) list the daily mode level as 50 lumens for 7.5 hours, while some (ex: lightjunction) list it as 150 lumens for 3 hours. We'd both greatly prefer the...

Your favorite form factor of flashlights?

My ideal form factor hasn't existed until very recently (but I'm a bit wary of buying one): 1xAA/14500 WITH a pocket clip. The NDI FINALLY changes this, but I'm waiting for the jury to come to a verdict on the quality of the new run. Otherwise, I prefer a 1x123A for pocket carry. But only if it...

    Soul Afterglow?

"White" LEDs aren't white. They're blue LEDs with the die coated in phosphors. The blue light excites these phosphors, which glow, making the LED produce what we see as white light. Like everybody else said, what you're seeing is the afterglow of the phosphors when the LED is turned off.

Has SUREFIRE missed a Market opportunity?

I remember one of those survival guys using a minimag to set steel wool on fire. I forget which one it was.

how come no one has made reflectors dipped in Chrome

I think silver would require too much maintenance. Nickel plating isn't the same as chrome plating. I feel a bit silly explaining this, but nickel plating is done with nickel, and chrome plating is done with chromium. Inexpensive nickel plated (actually, electroless nickel plating) plastics and...

    Primaries so bad?

For me, it's not just a matter of cost, but of practical use and readiness. I'm more likely to use a flashlight loaded with rechargeables because it can always be recharged. This makes the flashlight itself more useful because I can run it without worrying about cost. Also, I like fresh...

Has SUREFIRE missed a Market opportunity?

I have doubts about it being a wise business decision for Surefire to produce a 1xAA light. In fact, I'm sure they've considered it (only a really dumb company would blindly ignore potential markets) and have come to the conclusion that it wouldn't be profitable. You can break down the market...

I actually just bought an INova X5...

You can get a 14670 cell from AW (people use these in Surefire L2s, as a 17670 won't fit). But like OrBy said, it won't work well.

Why no 3rd party Novatac battery cases?

Just got mine. Definitely not a second. No cap (just the body and knurled, flush switch). Anodization is perfect and a 100% match to my HDS. Just under 2 hours on max with a AW 17670. Are the HDS and Novatac battery cases interchangeable?

Battery Grenade Goes Off On Duty Belt

So is it the battery that explodes, or is it that the venting causes overpressuring within the flashlight tube that causes the the whole thing to go off (like putting dry ice in a 2liter bottle)?

Why no good bike lights in brick & morter?

Sadly, the technology is lagging for bike lights, and in the few cases where it's up to date, you have to pay through the nose for it. Cateye just came out with a new version of their Singleshot light. 1 single 1W LED. $80. There's a dual 1W LED version too, but I don't know what it costs (nor...

    Sold/Expired Wanted: TIR optic/domed lens from KL1

Do a search for "Supernova". There's a few threads on this mod. I'm probably going to have to send my light to Milkyspit to have it done properly. The TIR optic won't fit without modification (sanding).

    Whats the best crank/dynamo light?

I forgot the most obvious advantage of not relying on a crank light: You don't have to crank the effing thing!

    Whats the best crank/dynamo light?

IMO, finding the best crank light is like finding the best cow pie in a pasture. Sure, it's the "best", but it's still a turd. For a glovebox light, you're better off with a multi-level light (low level for long term/emergency use, bright for when you need it) and lithium batteries (some in the...

Q for Surefire E1L owners - is 3 lumens low too low?

I find a very low very useful sometimes, particularly when I wake up in the middle of the night and don't want to blind myself. I don't know what level/lumens I have it set as, but I have my HDS set at 60/42/10/VL. However, I find a very low level useful only when there's plenty of flood. I...

Thanks for the heads-up on the 17670 cases. I've got one on the way for my U60XRGT.
