Re: You may consider this ESP products are very rare in North America. I think I've only seen them in a booth at a trade show. Bezel down carry options are so few and far between, especially for bezels more than 38mm.

looking for 1xAA light to recommend to college students

I would recommend the XENO E03, however you lose a true low mode when running 14500s. See Selfbuilt's excellent review here. The list of well built lights that rival lights like the XENO E03 is very short, shorter still when looking at price (Zebralight SC-52, et al).

    EDC/Dog walking

The XENO E03 in XP-G throws decently for a 1xAA/14500 light. My E03s in XP-G don't see a lot of EDC time compared to the XM-Ls or other lights but it's nice for $20 as kit bag lights/glovebox/something to split ring to the leash handle/etc.

    Recommendations for best AA light

Indeed, it is not. The updated driver was rolled in during the latest V3. Honestly, like most hidden modes, they're not essential and more of a novelty. The Locator Beacon/Strobe only really comes in handy for the camper or cyclist, respectively. Re: 14500s I run 14500s in the E03s I rotate...

    Recommendations for best AA light

The product label/SKU code that came in the clamshell/gift box must state that it's a 3+3 driver. If it's the newest driver tap 3 times quickly to enter the hidden mode. Strobe > Locator Beacon > SOS. (The reverse clicky on the E03 does take getting used to-- some hate it, some just bear with...

    Recommendations for best AA light

The Xeno E03 is great on 14500s. The only downside (XM-L Versions) is that your low is no longer low and your high is particularly outrageous. All the current E03 V3s ship with their newest 3+3 driver ([M, L, H] + [S, LB, SOS]). It's not my favorite UI but it's decent enough for a light very...

Flood AA for Fenix headband, $30 max

The Xeno E03, particularly in XM-L NW, is as good as it gets for ~$25 in that particular class/form factor. Anything more the price bracket moves up considerably. I'm sure you've read this already...

    Duty, Rifle, and EDC Lights

That, sadly, is one of the compromises with lights with smaller heads. Generally, they can't be driven as hard and, therefore can't be as bright as lights with larger heads. You can find rings that are smaller than 1" weaver or picatinny Mil1913 but they're not as common as 1" tubes-- if you...

EDC light good for weapon use.

It depends on how the particular light changes modes. Some drivers simply switch within a certain time when power is on/off. Others are more complicated (dual switches, etc). The recoil that most centrefire caliber firearms generate is more than enough to interrupt the circuit of a non-shock...

EDC light good for weapon use.

Klarus XT2A, 2xAA (or smaller XT1A, 1xAA) + Klarus TR11 Remote Swtich (if mounting to a firearm). (Marshall's video from GG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3X4dM-4YUQ <-- informational video) The Klarus XT line has a UI that is popular with first responders, tactical users, and the armed citizen.

Assuming you have the VP70 Surefire Holster, yes, it will fit bezel-up. For a bezel-down option (certainly my preferred rig carry opt) the V85/B might fit but I believe the Fury line head size is .1" larger than the holsters 1.25". Shoot Surefire Customer Service (Toll-free...

Best all around triple AAA headlamp?

There so many 3xAAA options out there. You're better off heading down to your local outdoor shop and playing with them in-store. Petzl, Black Diamond, etc-- they make good stuff, obviously you get what you pay for. For my needs the headlamp form factor has really lost out to the headband+1xAA...

Hmmm, a 1x18650 suggestion would be the XENO G42 (see Selfbuilt's review here on CPF), excellent throw, overbuilt with stainless steel bezel/tailcap rings. Sadly, it's harder to find duty-appropriate carry options for it (due to body shape). Almost identical performer, the XENO F42 (little...

    Duty, Rifle, and EDC Lights

You're most welcome, Good Sir. Glad to be of any help. As for a bezel-down option-- The "Blackhawk CQC Compact Flashlight Carrier" is rugged, light weight and inexpensive (MSRP $20, street $10-$15). It's also narrow and takes up about 1 1/2"/40mm on your rig. I've used it for various lights...

    Duty, Rifle, and EDC Lights

    1. AA EDC: Klarus XT1A or Maratac AA or XENO E03 (My current AA/14500 EDC as 520 lumens is quite potent) 2. 2xAA Duty Use: Klarus XT2A (Reasonably small and compact, very easy to carry on duty belt) 3. 2xAA Rifle Mount: Klarus XT2A w/ Klarus TR11 Pressure Switch & 1" Picatinny/MIL STD-1913...

I wore a Surefire 6PL in a Surefire V85 Holster (Bezel-Down) on my rig for quite a while. I loved the set up and it was fast and easy to deploy. The stock 6P wouldn't fill your needs but perhaps a Surefire Fury (500 Lumens, different modes are available from Surefire) in that same set up would...

Two different recommendations, All throw and edc

Re: EDC The XENO E03 (single AA/14500) is a great option. It's well known here and it's show piece is 400+ lumens. (See selfbuilt's review here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?309670-Xeno-E03-%281xAA-1x14500%29-XP-G-R5-Neutral-White-Review-RUNTIMES-BEAMSHOTS) You can usually...

Two different recommendations, All throw and edc

In addition, XENO lights tend to come in a larger variety of emitter bins when compared to their better known competitors. The F42 is no exception. I believe it comes in 3 bins (Warm White, Neutral, and Cool White). You'll still find them offered with XP-G. Slightly lower output (vs. XM-L) but...
