Malkoff Runtime Graphs - CR123/Alkaline Comparo

Hi INFRNL! I very much appreciate the runtime graphs! Apologize if this question is already answered somewhere but: do you know what's the runtime difference is between the M61T you measured and the new one with higher output? Is it otherwise possible to do a test?

The definitive Malkoff Hound Dog Super thread

I have tried super hound dog with a single 18650(17670 and 16650 the same) and it works. But the lux meter showed that the output is somewhat reduced and it's not regulated. But it works at a very useful output for some our or so, I have not tried until end. But it's good to know!

I have heard about a few other, but it's unlikely that they are as nerdy as I am!

It's still almost fully daylight 24 hour here close to polar circle and I long for the autumn to arrive. Around the middle of august the flashlight season starts again here. The super hound dog is an awesome light and I really looking forward to bring it out again! I am planning to get some new...

Malkoff Runtime Graphs - CR123/Alkaline Comparo

Re: Malkoff Runtime Graphs - Ongoing Adventure INFRNL, Thanks for the runtime graphs, great job! There is a problem however: the definition of the pictures at imgur is really bad and it's impossible to read the text for battery and runtimes. Or is that only for me?

Ok, thanks! I totally forgot that thread. It's interesting that 425lm M61 actually is brighter than 325lm until ~200min! And according to the graph it seems to be more lumen-hours! I guess Gene has started to use a more efficient driver, or?

Thanks, that looks good with 2x18650. I am more interested in the performance with single 18650, though.

Anyone who has made runtime graphs for some of the new Malkoff higher output models and dropins?

If these improvments of max brightness is a result of more efficient emitters and/or circuits I am fine with that. But if it is higher outputs on the expense of stable output and runtime I don't like it.

I see that the brightness is increased for M61T and M61Hot as well: 480 and 740lm. I guess this is initial brightness and it drops a lot after a while like with M91T. I am not sure I appreciate this because it probably will shorten the runtime in any case.

Sorry, I expressed it a bit wrong. What I mean is that I personally don't consider it having less spill than ordinary HD. The spill is dimmer but much wider so you could also describe it like it has more spill. Depending of the definition of spill, if it's based on width or intensity.

I like my Hound Dog Super too. I have the warm tint of 4000K, beautiful! But I a bit disagree with the description that it lacks spill. Actually the spill is super wide and very useful, though it isn't as bright as the reflector spill of ordinary Hound Dog. Having that said I usually prefer...

What I understand the relationship between lumen and lux always has to be linear. So the calculation is correct.

I hope that and would like a warm white dropin for Maglite!

Interesting that 22.3 bezel works with the M31/61 dropins. I consider to get a few of them and replace the 16.5s. I have earlier noticed that 16.5 slightly obscures the light which is noticable as well in the beam profile and with a slight loss of output.

Then we can expect ~5hours with 2x18650. Still I find M61T best with a single 18650. A certain time of stable output followed by a slow decline so you can notice when it's time for battery replacement/recharge in good time before it's too depleted.

Runtime graphs are highly valuable, much better than just a stated runtime. The graphs show that while M61T gives a decent performance with CR123s the M61HOT is an expensive choice for these cells. Good job INFRNL! By the way: shame on you for my wallet screams in panic! I had decided not to...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Thanks for the very valuable runtime graph! It seems that T and HOT have very similar lumen-hours which is a bit surprising taking the first 80min output difference in consider. Still I think the perceived brightness difference is pretty subtle for the eyes. After ~120min and 2hours after that...
