Our testing has focused on primaries. The RCR-123A we sell is both low voltage protected to protect the battery but also short circuit protected to protect the customer. No I have not tried that one. I have turned them off and on a few times, but just for no reason other than making sure they were all the way on or tight. I just shipped a requested box to Steve. Not sure why he has not posted here for a while but he is fine. I forgot this last weekend was Field Day and so only got 4 tests done of about a dozen we wanted to do. All failed. One of the main reasons we have stayed away from Lithium Polymers is this very thing. Check out Polymers. There are at least if not more occurances of this happening in that chemistry. So we are hypocrites here in only dealing with "mildly dangerous?" batteries I guess. It is a dead horse...- batterystation

Yes they have PTC protection. They would never pass UL or any other tests without it. I just short circuited one here on my Fluke DMM and at about 7 amps it got hot and the current slowly dropped to under 1 amp until I let the cell cool off. FYI- Almost EVERY brand of CR123A is now made in China including Sanyo so I would be hesitant to make a blanket statement about China. I will say that out of 40 companies that supplied us samples three years ago, 30 were just outright crap. 13 did not even have PTC protection. Do beware of...- batterystation

Just for giggles I ran a set dead in the Hellfire that was a 10% and 100% mix. Nothing special happened. After the light went out and cooled, I dumped out the batteries. An hour later, I took the front one and ZTS tested it and it read but did not light anything. It ran the test LEDs back...- batterystation
