    HDS Systems #23

This is blunt, but what I think is that the whining about the holes gave him the motivation to make the new clip. And since it fits pretty much all his lights, and we know he has a problem hitting delivery deadlines, that makes for little motivation to abandon it. Just makes more work.

Pandemic Mental Health - How YOU doin'?

I'm taking heart in that a fair number of people on that 'thread' are there to say 1) the thread changed their perception and 2) they got vaccinated.

Really have to ask yourself, "what's best for the light". It's not about you or me. Therefore... tapped holes.

Pandemic Mental Health - How YOU doin'?

I'm _not_ going to turn toward discussing c-19 in this thread. But for those of us in the middle of this professionally, then that subreddit has helped immensely. So, yeah, I'm better than a week ago.

Pandemic Mental Health - How YOU doin'?

Much better after I found reddit's 'herman cain award' subgroup.

The tragedy is that only the holes/threads are missing. The area the screws go into is still there internally. Someone should 3d print a collar that you slip the light into. The screw holes would be lined up for drilling. Or better yet... he could simply put the holes back!

It's fixable... 5 minutes, caliper, drill, tap.

Master thread for disasters and generators.

I know it's not budget-friendly, but simply having 2 identical units will solve 95% of your generator problems. And the final 5% can be solved by having a spare new carburetor on hand. Or ditch gen #2 and just have a spare carb.

trying to find current version of old light

I think the controller was called a 'n flex'.

trying to find current version of old light

About 15 years ago I had a 'd' maglite that was running 6 aa cells in a 2d adapter. The bulb was replaced by an led. There was glow in the dark epoxy around the bulb area. It was focusable (I think). The switch was multi mode momentary. What was this light? Is there a current version of it...

    noteworthy timeline of lights

I just had this 'idea' for a thread and listed some items which stand out to me. Others will have more items and accurate dates.

    noteworthy timeline of lights

Luminous efficacy falls off a cliff when you do that. And back on topic... I don't think new users would read dozens of pages... which is what we are headed toward unless we trim it down a good bit. I don't have definitive numbers on the items I put on the list. They are general items...

    noteworthy timeline of lights

Thought it might be interesting to make a timeline of noteworthy developments in lights. I don't have all the info for this, but will throw out some ideas on what might be pertinent, without being too detailed. 1980-ish maglite introduces their c/d cell line 1980-ish xenon/halogen bulbs go...

Are these batteries protected or not.

I've got some 18650 zebralights that cutoff when low... but they continue (parasitic load maybe???) to drain the cell. I've pulled cells out that measure below 2 volts.

Are these batteries protected or not.

Concerning the low voltage thing. A single cell light is easy to determine battery level... just measure the voltage in the light as part of your circuitry. A multi-cell light (this only works for 2 cells) is impossible to tell individual voltages for each cell. On the surface this sounds like...

Master thread for disasters and generators.

I've got the whole house genset, but still keep the eu2k and a portable window unit just in case. My older generator-to-house cable was a plain 110 cable. I used a jumper inserted into the dryer outlet to bridge the 2 phases.

Ahhh. The good old days of screw holes and clips that don't suck. Nice light. Good luck.

    Hiking in the nude

This reminds me of a video (from before youtube). Two american boys are at the beach... dreaming of the nude European beaches and the fine things they envision there. Then it cuts to two european boys at a nude beach, populated by older less fine things... while they dream of beaches in the US...

    Hurricane Ida

The sewer backflows I have seen are from pressure and elevation differences. Client of mine got 4-5 feet of sewage in their place several years back. Yeah, some sort of plug at the cleanout would work. For the cleanup cost versus repair cost I would empty a can of expanding foam into the cleanout.

Dang... I knew this. Should have mentioned it. Not sure how to prevent sewer backflow though.
