Anybody have a "Chawly Changer" coin dispenser?

Re: Anybody have a "Chawly Changer" coin dispenser? And getting older still- Got another comment from a cashier yesterday saying how neat it was, asking where I got it and luckily the website was imprinted on the back so I showed him. Had to go to the website to make sure it was still working...

    Mechanical Pencils - test

Mechanical Pencils Just so happened to order this 0.5mm Pentel Sharp Kerry today: It has uniformly good reviews, so I thought I'd see for myself. I presently use a Staedtler Integrity 9505 with the double clutch mechanism that holds the lead with zero play. I don't like any movement at...

I need a new digital camera..... Recommendations?

The flash is pretty weak, so I guess they figured it a necessary evil for the higher ISO to get a noisy shot than one that's too dark, if the distance is beyond its short range.

I need a new digital camera..... Recommendations?

Moonshot Playing around with the "Tizzie" (good nickname, kitelights- :)) Tried a moonshot just for kicks- (just pointed and shoot, pic downloaded straight from memory card) It pulls in the details, but with a halo effect, and doesn't show as much of the "cheese holes" visible in elgarak's...

I need a new digital camera..... Recommendations?

These are a couple of handheld shots comparing the two ends of the zoom range on the Lumix TZ1, on the ISO 1600 setting, from the same vantage point. The processing for the gain up and noise reduction results in a decidedly soft focus look to the pictures, but it's still pretty nifty how much...

    Krylon Glowz glow spray paint

Works okay, but it's nothing like the mixed glow paint as far as level of glow and staying power, so it's more for an immediate novelty effect rather than a useful long lasting glow-

    Krylon Glowz glow spray paint

Anyone try this spray glow paint by Krylon? Got a 6oz can for $3.77, and haven't really test it yet other than spraying a small clip with it to see it glow, but it seems to work. Haven't compared it to anything else though-

    Best Magnifier for fire starting?

I have an fresnel magnifier the size of a sheet of paper, and it can make things go poof pretty fast, probably under a second with paper. The welding mask is a good idea for extended play for sure- Portable if you sew a big pocket in your jacket maybe, otherwise no.

    Dual Monitors work great!

Good tip, just tried it out, and it makes it much smoother looking on the LCD- Before: After:

    Looking for Huge Duffle Bags

I suppose they'd be pretty waterproof and durable- strange might be the looks you get from the neighbors if you use it to haul your laundry to the laundromat. No worries they'd stick a used one in there, is there?

    Cool, cheap gadget

I use the badge reel holders as a safety rather than a primary holder and it works well- just inspect the cord every now and then to check if it's fraying. Usually happens at the end, so it's easy to just cut off the frayed piece and reattach it. A bit shorter but just as good. I like to...

Security Cameras + DVR + Watermarking

I'll definitely be watching the budget on it; just looking for a basic setup for after-the-fact analysis. That 9k system's got to be pretty cool though- Not expecting the crooks to have the sense to stay away when they're on candid camera, but I'd like to see if I can find out the...

Security Cameras + DVR + Watermarking

I was considering that very thing, and just looked at that Q-See DVR card. If you set it up for motion detection rather than continuous recording, would that still be a problem? I need to set up monitoring for the outside of my house, but was planning on using the motion detection feature to...

Looking for a good wind-up radio.

:huh2: Well here's something interesting- I turned the switch to "Alert", instead of "Off", and whadya know, the current draw dropped to zero. I'll have to try to find my manual to see if this is really supposed to be backwards like this, where off might actually be the position used for...

Looking for a good wind-up radio.

It has the alert feature, but I have it turned to 'off', so I didn't expect it to still be drawing anything. No clock or anything that should need standby power, which is why it was odd that it should draw anything at all-

Looking for a good wind-up radio.

I checked my FR-300 radio, and it seems to have a slight draw on the batteries even when everything it turned off; about 0.3mA. (Both Don't know if mine is defective or if it's part of the design, though I don't see why anything in there should require any kind of standby power. That may be...

Looking for a good wind-up radio.

If you connected it up to the three AA's, it'd take about 10 hours to charge up, with the 200mA charge current it puts out. Doing it a while definitely makes you gain a better appreciation of battery chargers and what they do for you- :) Short circuit current output from the phone charger jack...

Looking for a good wind-up radio.

If you're planning to use it for long term storage emergency use, don't count on the rechargeable battery pack being anything but discharged when you need it- Keep alkalines or lithiums in the AA compartment with a separator to keep them from accidentally discharging, so you'll have power when...

Anybody have a "Chawly Changer" coin dispenser?

Re: Anybody have a "Chawly Changer" coin dispenser? A friend of mine just took is bucket of coins to Commerce Bank and got back some $189 in change. It's supposed to be free, but if they gave him 75% of his money, I doubt he'd have a clue. Then again, he's a bit of a Rainman, so maybe he...
