The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Happy belated birthday Gene! Funny you should mention that. I suspected the same thing but found that the M61 HOT is actually closer in beam profile to one of my all time favorites, the old LX2 LumaMax. Of course the HOT is more powerful but the beams are otherwise pretty similar...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Another set of photos taken from a little farther back. Distance to target is 40 yards and tree 50 yards. The white barrels are in the same location as before making them 25 yards out and 5 yards to either side of the center line (approx 25.5 yards from the lights). Same lights as previous...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

I enjoyed it. I have been on a bit of a hiatus lately and just now getting back into the swing of things. It had just rained when I took the photos Saturday night and the grass was still very wet, making most of the lights look a good bit cooler than they really are. I went shooting last...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

I know of at least one :naughty: Finally got out last night to take beamshot photos with some of the new Malkoffs. Everything seems as advertised and I'll echo all the earlier comments regarding the beam profiles. Since I'm not really into hunting white walls, I think they look just fine...

Ditto. I'm 300 miles from home so it will be a while before I can check mine out.

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

I'm betting it will have a LOT more output (lumens) with a good boost in throw. I'm anxious to find out. :twothumbs

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Grizzman has done that to more than one person! This man speaks the truth. That's the best way to avoid missing out when stock is replenished. I guess it depends upon just how close you're talking about. With their lower output modes either of them works fine for me for arm's reach tasks...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Agreed. I would also point out that most of us don't use our lights like what is shown in a runtime chart (turn light on, leave on until batteries go dead). All that aside, they may have similar names and pedigree but they are still very different from one another. When I leave my V3 at home...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

twl pretty much nailed it with his response. I would just add that the redesigned head sheds some additional weight and gives the light a slightly slimmer profile as well. For some this won't matter much, for others it might make the difference between carrying a Hound Dog or something else...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Glad you like the beamshots. You know the safe answer to your question . . . get one of each! I'm afraid I can't help with the other questions

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

They performed a little better than I expected. They would definitely do in a pinch. No problem sir, I just wish I could have gotten some better beamshots. Hopefully the weather is a little more cooperative this weekend! ---------------------------- Random pic showing four Hound Dog...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Just wrapped up my Hound Dog 18650 review. Grizz already has things off to a good start here with his great photos and descriptions so I will just add a few things. I've always loved the elegantly simple design of the Hound Dog heads but the new Hound Dog 18650 design is a nice change of...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

Oops. I didn't catch the fact that the original measurements were in yards :ohgeez: I went back and fixed the math in my earlier post. Gene's runtime specs look like they are spot-on (no surprise). I tested the Cool version last night and I'm halfway through testing the neutral now.

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

It's measured lux multiplied by the distance (in meters) squared. Edit: I didn't notice the original measurements were in yards! 10 yards = 9.144 meters New calculation . . . 235.7 x 9.144^2 = 19,708
