Relay for low beams to come on when I select high beam?

Why would you want extra foreground lighting with the high beams on? This is going to make seeing farther out (where the high beam's hot spot is) worse because your eyes will be adjusted to the brightness of the light right in front of you. The high beams are dimmer right in front of the...

    Name that headlight

They look the same or very similar to the Auteroche lights shown here- https://www.m201.com/access/cibie.htm

I have been away for awhile- where did Virgil and Alaric go?????

Agreed 100% It's sad to see them go. I used to recommend that anyone who had questions about automotive lighting upgrades check here first because the info posted was accurate and backed up with proof. Now it's no better than any other forum; everyone just posts "I like ______, tHeY'rE...

Holley RetroBright headlamps? Good, bad or ugly?

Well that's disappointing. I bought a '66 C10 in January and the Holley lights were on the radar since they look appropriate for an old truck, but I wanted to wait for a legit review of them before buying them. I guess I'll dig out a set of Z-Beams instead.

    H4666 update ?

Until the last few years they were terrible cars to maintain- parts prices were ridiculous. From what I understand one guy bought all of the remaining Capri parts from dealerships, started a buisiness, and has a monopoly on much of whats available new, and has set crazy high prices. Like $499...

    H4666 update ?

I have a '92 base model Capri, not sure why everyone thinks they're terrible. It easily outhandles either of the two NA Miatas I've owned, is more comfortable, easier to get in and out of, way more practical with the large trunk that expands into the cabin with the rear seat folded, the soft...

    Koito H4 headlamps?

I did pull the bulbs and the low beam filaments were wavy. I swapped in Flosser bulbs and the beam pattern is more even now with more light out at the cut off. Apparently Koito had a bad run of H4 bulbs, similar to the occasional bent 9004 Nighthawk bulbs a while back.

    Koito H4 headlamps?

I just installed a pair of Koito H4 7" rounds with relay harness on my new to me Miata and I'd say that the low beam performance is well under that of Cibie H4 7" rounds. It's like driving with fog lights only on low beam; lots of foreground light but I can't even see the cut off unless I'm in...

    Vintage Zelmot Lamps?

I'll give them a try then, thanks for the info! My first venture into "upgraded" H4's were Delta/Wesem 7" "Classic Convex" housings from Classic Industries... didn't know they were overpriced garbage at the time, and the low beams were way worse than the sealed beams they replaced. Found out...

    Vintage Zelmot Lamps?

I ran across a local guy that had a few interesting vintage lamps and bulb sets for sale, and among the ones I bought were a pair of NOS 5.75" Zelmot H1 housings, and an identical used pair in like-new condition. They look to be well made, and the dust boot design seals very well. I did a...

Updated Hella "Super" 7" H4 Headlights

I probably would have went with JW's for the Miata instead of Z-Beams if the JW's had been available with clear/white light output. I've been in a car with ~5K HID's and couldn't get used to the slight blue color compared to the color of clear halogens. I'm possibly selling the Miata and...

Updated Hella "Super" 7" H4 Headlights

Didn't realize they had been out that long. I've collected various 7" lights for a few years now, mostly Cibies, and thought I knew of most all of the currently available lights. I don't check Rallylights often (was looking up 5.75" Hella Bifocus lights actually) and stumbled across the "Super"...

Updated Hella "Super" 7" H4 Headlights

Interesting to see that Hella has updated their 7" H4's with a new "Super" version. It sounds like they may have fixed the too-high high beam issue. Cibie 7" H4's are available from Amazon for about the same price... I wonder how these compare...

Z-Beams, Relay Harness, and Phillips X-Treme Vision Installed Last Night...

Yeah, I didn't really want any funky looking lights even thought they're flipped down during the day. The Z-Beams look right at home. I'm in a SC/NC Vintage VW club and the Clemson Sports Car Club. I joined CSCC last year and they do group drives occasionally during the school year. I've...

Z-Beams, Relay Harness, and Phillips X-Treme Vision Installed Last Night...

I finally received the bulbs in the mail yesterday so I could finish up the lighting upgrades on my '92 Miata. I built my own 12g relay harness and already had a pair of extremely nice used Z-Beams. I'd had the Z-beams in the car with a pair of standard wattage Hella bulbs before but no...

Really...? Just when you think you've seen it all.

I was scrolling through early Celica parts on eBay and noticed a listing for blacked-out H4 housings. Yes, black colored reflectors. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=191333502024

Marchal 5.75" H1 Low Beam- Performance vs Hella Bi-Focus

How do Cibie H1 convex lows compare, I was able to find a pair of those. I also have a lead on a pair of clear CSR lows, hopefully the guy can dig up a pair.

Marchal 5.75" H1 Low Beam- Performance vs Hella Bi-Focus

Good to know. Was hoping to stick with period-correct housings since the Marchals were available. I'll hold off on buying them.

Marchal 5.75" H1 Low Beam- Performance vs Hella Bi-Focus

I found a pair of NOS Marchal H1 5.75" low beam headlights and was wondering how good they are compared to currently available Hella Bi-Focus lamps. I'll be buying a first-gen Celica this week with quad 5.75" lights and headlights would be the first upgrade once it's driveable. Pics- these...

Anyone else into collecting vintage lights? Cibie, Marchal, etc

Bought the H3's from Daniel Stern based of his recommendation based on us wanting a high beam that still had good peripheral vision. Didn't want all out distance vision without being able to see around the sides of the road as good. Lots of critters and wooded areas where we're at so its good to...
