Thank you for such a sensible post, sometimes I wonder if I'm the only environmentalist here. P

That's a great idea, thanks Jimmy. I do like the shorter lights though. I shall keep my eyes open for a Li Ion model. P

Does anyone kmow if Illumn ever sold an MDC head with a 219b that runs on Li Ions? I seem to remember an SHO version, but can't remember if that was a Li Ion version. I've just dusted of my MDC Nichia head, but it does chew through the primaries. P

    High Lumen Pocketable Floody Malkoff

Just to muddy the water, I run OR triples in my Malkoffs. High outputs and floody. You just have to open out the retaining ring a little. Mine are V4 Nichia, but I think OR still have some V5 for sale. P

If you trawl through the various Malkoff threads you'll see that Gene upgraded the driver recently, but hasn't updated his site. That's what all the renewed interest in these modules is about. P

    New to Malkoff - M61 MD2 + M61HOT MD2

This has never been a problem for me. I have noticed a minor (1-2%) difference in capacity when recharging a pair, but nothing to write home about. Other people do say that they've noticed a difference enough to bother them. Maybe it's because I always recharge my cells after use, irrespective...

    New to Malkoff - M61 MD2 + M61HOT MD2

I keep matched pairs for my 2 cell lights. Buy them together and hopefully from the same batch. Check they have similar capacities with a Charge - Discharge - Charge Test. Then label them as a pair and use them exclusively together. P

    New to Malkoff - M61 MD2 + M61HOT MD2

I'll just address this bit. I will probably be in the 25% of people here telling you to stick with unprotected cells. The chemistry of IMR and INR (unprotected) is inherently safer than ICR (protected). A very wise person once said that the protection is there to protect the cell from you, and...

Manufacturing defect on new MDC Bodies?

That's the way I'd have gone too. Good on you, and I'm so glad you sorted the problem. P

Hey, but it's fun isn't it? Practically, go with the MDC, but unless we experiment we never learn. Also, I thought you said you pics were rubbish? Just seen your C2, very smart. P

How interesting to read your thoughts NH. Also it's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one to find single output lights the most useful. P

Older MD4 body and 18650 compatibility

Yes, that's the most sense I've read about cells in while. This being a community of enthusiasts, I find it hard to believe that many would want to be using a dated 2000mah cell when they can get a 3400 for 10 bucks or so. P

If you look at the head, you'll see it overlaps the rube when it's screwed up tight. So it's not a flush fit like the tail. If it was, then the clip would prevent the tube mating with the retaining ring to complete the circuit. You would, as you say, need a clip that goes around the tube. P

In fact, contrary to normal thinking, electrons flow from the -ve cathode to the +ve anode, not from pos to neg. Not a lot of people know that. Oh God, I'm turning into Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. P

Wicky, I wouldn't even consider it if you don't want to wreck your module. I took an M60 apart once and the M61 is equally challenging.... https://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?408487-Malkoff-M60-Direct-Drive-Mod Sorry, I can't find the pics, but the words say it all, so to speak.
