Having used both, I would never recommend an H30 or H50 for hiking. While it is a great utility headlamp for indoor use, and can light up a room quite well on high, you'd never be able to see more than a house or so down the block outdoors in a power outage. I like to see more than 5m ahead of...
The Eos Tactical is another one I'd like to see side by side with this new model. It has a different (shallower) optic than the standard Eos, a reversed order of low-medium-high, and sliding coloured filters. I have an Eos, Eos tactical, and luxeon (red) moded Eos, so maybe I'll have to break...
I personally suspect that it is their own internal re-branding of the emitter for marketing purposes. Maxbright would likely sell better to the average consumer than Luxeon, and it protects them if they switch emitters from having to change the packaging. Also, it gives them a perceived...
Hmm, this sounds like a step backwards for outdoors use. The Eos Tactical was an advancement in the UI in that regard. This one is only two levels, default high. I wonder what the beam pattern is like? I can't speak of its industrial functionality, as that is where this is targeted and I...
I've been writing them for months to try and carry some of their products, without any results. I think they really don't like email, or have an overly aggressive anti-spam system in place. It does seem that the telephone is the only option. Regards, Eric
I'd suggest having a look at the Princeton Tec and Petzl lines, as they have some nice lights in a 3xAAA format with decent throw and with run times around what you are looking for. I personally use a Princeton Tec Eos. It isn't the most advanced light out there, but for around $35 in the USA...
I got one of these today for Astronomy use, and was elated to find that it started in low mode unlike the standard edition. I do plan to mod it with a red LED anyway, so that I can get very low output when used with the blue filter :) If anyone is still wondering about the optics, it basically...
Well, the PT Eos mod is done. I used a LXHL-MD1D Luxeon Star, and the net result is quite bright, around 800/300/65 lux at 1m as measured by my EA30. As a comparison on low, that is about 10% brighter than my Jet-1 MK. IBS, although it looks visually at least 50% brighter so that may...
I'm willing to bet the coloured versions are only 1/3-1/2 the lumens of the white. That seems to be the case with most of the ones I read data sheets for when hunting for a suitable replacement for use in my headlamp. The best I could find were only about 44 lumens at 2.5 Watt.
The only red headlights that I have been able to find either have red as an afterthought, such as one or two red LEDs on the side and a white main beam, or use a cluster of lower powered red LEDs, or use inefficient filters over the lens. None of these solutions are really optimal for me, as...
