    4000mah?

Can we actually buy cheap 18650's that even _approach_ 4000mAH? I recently bought some "4000 mAH" 18650 cells. They were on the fleabay price scale. When one died quite fast I did a discharge to 3V /charge to full cycle on my smart charger and found that the charge cycle stopped at 1450 mAH...

    LED Headlight Claims

I know that many LED torches and such are claiming a "little bit" over the odds, but I was perusing LED car headlights and they have tipped over into La La Land. So in summary we have a "low power consumption", 1050 Watt, 142 lm / watt LED lighting system! Sorry. Just needed to rant. This...

    "Bar" optyics

I have bought some LED vehicle driving lights. They are driven by Cree 3W LEDS. They have "spot" sections (only moderately sopt) and "flood" sections. They work amazingly for their price and actually draw nearly the watts they claim! The trouble is both spot and flood portions are entirely...

Is there something I don't know about?

I agree entirely. I am amazed at how fast even my 16 yo Hyundai Lantra starts...probably within a second...no...easily. I have a workshop charger that can get a car started witgh 5 miinutes' charge of a "flat"battery....just a few AH. It is still an issue though. Also if the battery is more...

Is there something I don't know about?

Yeah that's about what I figured. That is a pretty gross exaggeration. What triggered my seeing this was an ad on TV showing a similar thing being used to start a car with a "flat battery". I guess you_may_ get away with it if the car started in about 1 second flat, but IMO there is a reason...

Is there something I don't know about?

Yeah but I can't see this using 3400-3500 mAH cells, which arre pretty high end stuff! Also the claimed battery weight is 470gm. I have 18650s that weigh 45 gm each and are 2500 mAH. The Panasonic NCR18650B weighs 45gm also and _is_ 3400 mAH. But 18 * 45 =....850-ish gm, so nearly twice this...

    Run LED either polarithy SOLVED

I am putting LED dash lights onto a Honda Valkyirie motorbike.Due to its weird wiring for the indicators, when the left ndicator is flashing, the polarity ov the volts going tot the dahboard light is reversed from whbenm the right indicator is flasing.Of course this works fine with a globe, but...

LED strip lighting screw in clamps?

Have you measured the power draw of the strips compared to the claimed figure? A 10A supply _should_ be well pushed by two strips, if they are 5050s. Also are you talking RGB strips and if so, how much of each colour are you using. A plain white strip would be a lot simpler. I believe that the...

LED strip lighting screw in clamps?

Thanks for the reply. That is definitely not the problem. I have used a 3s LiPo battery and the power supply I have can output 10-14 V at 20A.

LED strip lighting screw in clamps?

Does anyone know if there are screw-down clamp[s that cut into the gel on LED strips and make contact with the terminals? So I have bought some 5050 LED strips and very soon worked out that the copper strips carrying the power are way too thin and cause massive loss of brightness over a 5m...

    LED strip connectors

So what I am finding now is crimp stuff that still needs the silicone covering removed from the solder tabs on the strip: one of tyhe nastiest parts for me. There are a few arguments that say it's easy, but I feel that there are LED strips and LED strips: I have had a coupe of shockers whenn it...

    LED strip connectors

Thanks for that. Now all I need to search is a page I can understand :)

    LED strip connectors

I have to disagree. I ran a single 5m strip of 5050 and it was way under current, with a 250w power supply set at 13-8v.Connecting both ends helped and also made brightness even along the strip, but it was still under current. Many others have spoken of the same experience.

    LED strip connectors

I recently converted a bus/motor home ceiling lights to LED using LED strips, cut into short strips. I also fixed up a trailer's lights with LEDs the same way.......It was a PITA. I had to strip the plastic from each min-strip's connector tab area then solder.....again and again and....it also...

Easy to Understand Lumens Vs Lux Explanation

Integrating sphereLux to lumens, final conversion confusion So you get an integrating sphere as described elsewhere on these forums. You make sure you surce cannot directkly strike the meter sensor. The whole idea is to make the light source as diffuse as possible. You measure the lux. Then...

    Chrome on optics?

OK. Thanks guys. So the solid optis are as efficient as a reflector style anyway, and adding a shiny surface will probably just make things worse. That clears that up and has just saved mew $15 for a can of chrome. Thank you all...even the ones that totally confused me :D
