Ikea Ladda, Duracell, or what NiMH?

I don't really trust the auctions sites since there are known fake eneloops around. I went to Ikea for the first time in seven years yesterday to pick up Ladda AAA (750mAh) and AA (1900mAh) and AA (2450mAh). Going to Ikea is like an epic journey to Crete and the Mythical Labyrinth of the...

I’ve Been revisiting some old favorite lights lately.

Ahh I had forgotten about the Tec 40. I loved mine pre-forum. I had the 2 cell one and the headlamps as well. I remember this forum calling the PT Blast 2xAAA the poor mans E1e and the 4xAAA version the poor mans E2e. I probably still have all those around here somewhere.

    New Mini MKIII's for 2021

2 hrs on high and 22 hrs on Med makes more sense. Is this with the stock rechargeable? Is going out at 22.5 hrs when the protection circuit on the battery kicks in? Is there any warning the light is going to cut out? (Dimming, flickering , etc..) What is the performance like on a primary CR123...

    New Mini MKIII's for 2021

A small batch of "low power" mini's went up on the site so I ordered one. I actually prefer the lower outputs. The output and runtimes given on the page don't make much sense though as Med is 1/3 the power but only 50% more runtime, so that implies a lot less effeciency than the original spec...

    Best 14500 cells

Those are 1.5v cells, they have some sort of buck circuit inside to reduce the voltage, and therefore the capacity goes up proportionately. Capacity is more comparable to an eneloop. I have the Fenix version and it self drains in about 6 mo.

Anybody try Quark QK2A MKIII on a single AA body?

Specs say the Voltage Range is 0.9V-1.5V, which is clearly wrong. Can the Low voltage head handle LiIon 4.2v max, like the old ones could? I also like eneloops, what happens to the output on eneloops, I presume the max would be less, what about the other levels?

Best batteries for seldom used flashlights

For C batteries in my Maglight 3xC in the car door I use AA size Energizer L91 lithium primary in AA to C converters. I use the Eneloop labeled ones but there are a variety on they webstores that have everything. Indoors I use AA and AAA rechargable eneloops, a few Lithium AA and AAA and...

Eagletac D25A2 neutral white color temp?

    I have a D3C with Cree XP-L HI NW and it's warmer than a 5000k LH351D but cooler than a 4000k Nichia 319A, So I'll guess at between 4000-4500k.

Pandemic-the light at the end of the tunnel

Curious about this I looked up a source. Sourced from NYT: "The vaccine brought in $3.5 billion in revenue in the first three months of this year, nearly a quarter of its total revenue, Pfizer reported. The vaccine was, far and away, Pfizer’s biggest source of revenue. The company did not...

LUMINTOP FW3A 14500 Flashlight Group Buy

Re: LUMINTOP FW3A 14500 Flashlight Group Buy - ALIVE How does this group buy work? When are the lights supposed to get in?

    18650 vs. CR123

I have old CR123's for the same reason, but I'd advise against using two or more old CR123s in series. If they have self-discharged to a different level they could be a fire/explosion hazard. The Chinese made CR123s seem particularly bad about self discharge, they do not seem to live up to the...

So hard to find a good high cri light nowadays

Battery Junction has a whole section called "High CRI Flashlights". There are currently 52 listed, but many of them seem to be some variety of RoxyVon keychain lights.

Pandemic-the light at the end of the tunnel

Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, is caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes varicella (chickenpox). So basically someone is saying that if you ever had Chickenpox you are immune? This seems unlikely to the point of being ludicrus.

So hard to find a good high cri light nowadays

Here is a thread discussing options: Light I have experience with: AA: Some EagTac models, but you have to look around as each dealer seems to have different stock. Convoy T2 for under $17 (I bought mine from a US...

Where are all the single AA twisties?

The L3 Illumination AA lights were notoriously fragile. Rolled off a 3ft counter and mine was dead. Many others had the same experience. It was nice while it lasted though. The CountyComm Ti AA seems well built, but brightness was way less than advertised, guessing about 90 lumens on Max since...

Where are all the single AA twisties?

I think Eagtac still makes an AA twisty, the "D25A Mini", but not sure on availability. Plan B: Lumintop Tool AA and replace the stock tail switch with the twisty tail option. May want to remove the magnet for purse use. Both have offered Neutral...

    Favorite budget light 2021

It's not just memory its the type of memory. I don't like memory lights that start at some random place I was last time. Cycling to low can be a coping mechanism for that. The real annoying thing is when I have to cycle through High and Burst (or even worse strobes) to get back to that low mode...

    HDS HDS Systems #23

ya, I tried to compare my Rotary 120 to my Rotary 300 inside the house and it's tough. The 120 has a tight hotspot with a smooth transition and very warm 3700°K beam and the 300lm is a wider hotspot with a sharper transition, cold white in comparison 5000k (pure white in standalone use). The...

    HDS HDS Systems #23

Is that ~90 min runtime based on the speced lumen max with or without the Burst. So for instance my Rotary 300 comes enabled with 40 second burst and then drops to ~197lm till the batteries drop below some desired voltage. I'm familiar with the older lights and have done basic runtimes tests...
