Changed my mind. I should instead focus on a 2xAA light as being more efficient. With everything else staying the same. Ideally a head that takes either 2xAA or a 1x123.
Possible?

I forgot about that option. I did test drive a M61LLL in a 2xAA and 3xAA configuration and got long and even longer runtimes. At this time I run M61LLL in a 3xAAA config and want to run M61 in the 2xAA config. It does seem pretty close to 1 lumen if I am not mistaken.

You can probably cancel the 2xAA request, I am back to the "I need a 1xAA" mode.

I'm not going back to read this entire thread, but if this is for EDC, why would you want a multi-cell light?

It's not for EDC, it's a backup to a backup, multiple layers of redundancy.

My main lights are 18650-based but I also wanted to make sure I got AA and AAA bases covered. I do have the FiveMega 3xAA body which is nice and in a pinch can use an extension to turn any of my 2x18650 into 3x18650 devices turning them into 4xAA devices if necessary, but they are huge.

I used to do a lot of tests with 9P/MD3 on 2xAA, the runtime was good. I wonder how M61 compares to M61LLL on 2xAA. I get it they are running vastly underpowered and that's the point.

I think I will get that Jetbeam 1xAA device. With the low being 1.5 lumens.

how about Armytek C4? If it's for backup of a backup, it can run 2xAA batteries, 3xCR123, or 18650, 16650, 18500, 14500, 10440, and so and so forth, and has circa 1 lumen low.

Thrunite t10 might work; or you could look for a few older 4sevens quarks.
Ultimately, what you’re describing is a low power (level1-3) Peak ElCapitan.
Try a WTB for a used one.

If you can find it in stock somewhere the xtar wk007 will work with anything that fits: 1.5 AA. rechargeable or not. Or 14500. It's a slide zoomer with 4 modes and memory. The lowest setting is 2 lumens and the info provided by xtar says you're good for 33 days with a 14500, which is undoubtedly a touch optimistic. 🙄
