The controller circuit is very similar to this simple op-amp current shunt + mosfet setup:

the PC controller card is a National Instruments PCI-1200 DAQ card

the software is basically a (simple) control script written for MATLAB.

Your "cluttered" workspace is nothing, compared to mine, when i work..

BTW: I thought your BR LD is only 4x.. You have a 6x? I thought those were only just in developement...

The ggw-h20L is 6x for single layer BR, 4x for some types, 2x for DL I think. I see different ratings different places, but 6x most commonly is the top speed.

Wont it be nice when these are as common (and cheap) as CD burners are now? ahhh that warm fuzzy feeling. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you have to drop on the Donor drive?

The drive was about $350, and it still can burn CDs and DVDs, making it a $30 burner that looks like a $350 burner
