1250 Lumens for 19.95!!!

In a package the size of a Fisher Space Pen! Out of a single AAA! Using a single 5mm LED being run at .15W!

Anyone else think their Lumen rating might be a "little" off?

1250 lumens/.15 = 8333 lumens per watt, or almost ten times the theoretical maximum efficiacy of a 100% efficient monochromatic green light! At $20 bucks such a product is a bargin, if even just to reverse engineer it and understand what sort of exotic physics they discovered to make it work

Serously though, even if they meant 12.5 lumens, at 83 lumens per watt (I assume this to mean they're driving the LED at 40mA x 3.6V) might be possible if they are using the very best 5mm LEDs available, ie the expensive ones with 4 dice inside, but I somewhat doubt that's what they're using.

Their package reads: Power/Lumens.....0.15w/1250.

Maybe they just made a small error and transposed the two numbers? ;-)

A highly ineffecient bulb, if you ask me - 1250 watts to get 0.15 lumens.

My guess is that they probably meant 12.50, even though that is a bit much for a 5mm at 40mA, it would be a closer match than 1.250 (and three digits past the decimal is way too precise) -- they probably DID mean to overrate it, just not by so much.

I don't think even the Nichia CS could pull off 12.5 lumens at 40mA.

I think you're right.

IIRC the Nichia CS emits about 3 lumens @ 20ma, and the efficiency drops as the current goes up, so somewhat less than 6 lumens @ 40ma.

The four-die WahWang will do 12 lumens at 80 ma, though.

19.99 for 1250 lumens.......and to think i just spent 30 bucks on a rexlight. man, if i only knew, i wouldnt be wasting my money on that rex.
